Anyone got one of the newer, orange, non matrixed/segmented DMD displays from pincontrollers?

Just been looking on the site and have had one thats similar to the red version from PinLED but hated the alignment issues and sent it back. You can see what i mean in this pic (red version from pincontrollers):

Anyway, i have only just seen the newer versions that pincontrollers are offering and have to say they look amazing. There are no segmental pieces and the leds all line up perfectly. The price however is a bit OTT:

Info and pricing can be found on the website (in case you hadnt seen them) here:

Sooo. Anbody using one of the better, orange, LED displays yet? Interested somewhat i am.....

Not seen very latest but I do not like the ones that have a series of squares in them....

The pic i posted on the bottom is the non segmental version, with correctly aligned leds. The red one on the top is an 8x8 segmental version, but they suffer from alignment problems too. THe version supplied by PinLed use 16x16 modules and look even worse.

The main advantage i see for the segmental variety is that the 8x8 led matrix' are available in a variety of colours and could be changed out quite easily. Someone did this with their Tron. Youtube vid here:

The orange ones look the best, as the leds are fixed to the board. Might have some issues with glare on the DMD too. Still bloody expensive at £245.00 before shipping/taxes etc...

The Pinball Controllers orange DMDs look excellent, admittedly. But $375 + $35 shipping?! That's over £260. You could buy two 'traditional' DMDs for that - which for home use would last more than long enough. Add in the import charges - 20% vat and the £8 'collection fee' and you're talking about £320. For a display. Blimey.

And you think those prices are bloody expensive (which they are).

Remember back a little to the multi coloured DMD, well the price on these it going to be close to £700 each. Now do they still look as good ?

Ridiculous. You might as well use a version of pinmane and a small monitor (or something like that). Would be a damned site cheaper.

Yes, yes, I know it doesn't/wouldn't work like that, but surely someone somewhere can come up with a more sensibly priced alternative? It's only showing simple output, at a low frame rate, at low resolution.

As it is, I can't see many of us using anything other than an ordinary DMD for some time to come.

Give it time and prices will fall. Like anything new its top dollar, as time goes on they will become cheaper.

Yep, I suppose there will be a ready supply of used LED DMDs once all the recent Sterns start falling apart...

Yeah, too pricey at the mo, and £700 for a colour dmd is just daft........ Still want one though......

For once, luckily I prefer the cheap DMD's

Colour might be tempting though but not at £700!
