stupid question but new to pinball maintenance
is there an easy cross-reference for the part numbers given in a Bally Williams manual?
eg, the manual shows p/n 24-8768 for most of the lamps in my BR table, but I guess these are Bally-specific part numbers. (?)
the "#555" wedge base lamps shown on pinparts.co.uk look about right, but how can I be sure? (there are other mfg-specific part nrs of course)

should I replace with LEDs?
Ive always liked the glow from an incandescent lamp over an LED but maybe there are good technical reasons not to?
cheers

Should you replace with LED's? Most of us would say yes as they draw less power, less likely to burn GI connectors and they'll last longer. The colour of that white will be something to look into and the intensity too. Modern LED's can melt your eyeballs out of you head, but you can also buy frosted LED's that aren't too harsh.

Here's some links and food for thought from a previous posting....

https://www.cometpinball.com/Brightness-Chart-s/1825.htm is a pretty good guide to brightness.

And this one I like, if you've got the time to watch, John's Arcade fitting LED's, warm and cool to a Radical.

Hi. Yes this is the standard #555 twist in socket used across pinball machines from late 80s through to 2000s.

LEDs are down to personal taste. They certainly will brighten a table, but if you love the glow of incandescents they may not be for you.

Less power draw and running cooler is a plus, but in home use unless you have the machine switched on for hours and hours every day it's really not an issue.
