How does EBay work these days?

Having a clear out and found my old 1970s Lewis Leathers Aviakit jacket. Thought it was too good to bin so looked on EBay and was surprised by the silly money people were ASKING.
Like pins I know there’s a world of difference between asking and getting so I thought I’d watch a couple due to end soons for reality.
It must be 10-15 years since I sold anything on there and things seem to have changed, nothing seems to be on a countdown.
It could be me being exceptionally dim.
I’ve seen people on here state £xxx pin went for £xxx xxx months ago. How do you get this info?
For a 50 year old jacket it’s in pristine condition compared to some of the scuffed and grubby examples on there so rather than go on a diet and buy a bike thought I’d see if it was worth the hassle of EBay.

ebay still works more or less the same - you can either auction with a start price or do a buy it now listing.
for a lot of selling categories now ebay handles the postage, you just print a postage label and drop the parcel off at post office etc.

There are no seller fees as such now. The buyer pays the fees.

You can see previous sales on ebay by searching for an item and clicking on the 'Sold items' option on the left hand side menu.

@AlanJ & @Pooman2084, it’s not really the fees bit that’s putting me off, I was thinking of binning it, I just want to know it’s worth the hassle so I want to find out if people’s expectations reflect reality.

Type into your ebay search bar 'lewis leathers aviakit jacket' and then scroll down the left hand menu until you see 'sold items' then click on that.
