Hi folks in honkers this week so googled pinball and found a place to play called American Pool which is about a mile from IFTTT Centre. Four semi recent stern pins transformers Star Trek TwD and BDK.

None of them had code updates and Star Trek has a stuck switch that made the warp go without trying !

TWD I’m not sure but when I hit the drops nothing happened - so very early code?

Cheers for this Neil - my other half is from Hong Kong and I didn't find any the last time I visited, but then again I wasn't really looking. Will check this place out when I'm next over in Feb.

If you have a spare half day to kill I'd thoroughly recommend a quick trip out to Hong Kong Disneyland - Mystic Manor is quite easily one of the best dark rides in the world.

my other half is from HK too! That Transformers is always knackered every time I go there, at least once a year. Some cool places around to check out Neil if you get some time!

HK is great, been and a good friend lives there who has pins in the office, I’ll mail him for go to places, don’t go Macau I thought it was crap, loved HK
Thanks Martyn, hope the recovery is coming along, even if small steps. Loving the Iron Man !

Thanks Neil, we used to live in HK and now my son and his HK wife live there. We’ll be out at Christmas so will look this place up. What is the name and address please? John

I’m in HK next month for a week on business. Never been before , any recommendations of where to go would be appreciated !
I’d recommend : sitting on the top floor of a tram and take ride anywhere and back. Best sightseeing trip in the world; Star Ferry of course; if you go up the Peak on the tram make sure you walk down the almost secret quiet little footpath back to Central;go to the races, Sha Tin or Happy Valley; Temple of 10,000 Buddhas near Sha Tin, the official HK tourist board won’t recognise it because it’s a bit unsafe and dilapidated but it is wonderful; Mon Kok shopping in the markets at night; take ferries to the small outlying islands and explore them; the flower market and the bird market near Prince Edward MTR; whatever you do get away from the financial district and explore the real HK. Have fun! John.

Great tips.

To add to that I'd say go eat some proper stuff. Lots are tourist friendly, even if you go to a Tsui Wah or something for breakfast that's better than eating at the hotel buffet. Go to Mongkok and just a sweep of the street snacks, try new things.

Do more walking, don't always take the tube. Go to goldfish street.

Go and see the Bruce Lee statue. Go and see where he grew up and studied etc.

Go and see the giant Buddha. Go to Wong Tai Sin and have your fortune read. Don't just hang out in shopping centres.

Yes more great ideas.
The suggestion of doing things on foot is particularly good advice. You'll see so much just making your way along the streets.

Everything jb3d and others have said and Peter's links to pinballnews sites.

Plus would definitely recommend a Wednesday night at Happy Valley racecourse if you can and check out Stanley Market (bit touristy, but gotta be done) and the bays on the way there. You may even see some dragon boat racing...

There are also some secret bars in central like this one, hidden behind an umbrella shop and only accessible if you pull the correct one..!

It’s not all pinball and cigars sadly! :)

At LAX the only airport that sucks more than Manchester - heading home to collect the cake for episode 2!!!

Get a 4 day visa at the border and come across to Shenzhen to visit the Homepin factory (about a one hour trip from the border crossing). Then 40 minutes from us is the worlds largest electronics markets, HuaQiangBei.

Hong Kong these days is a huge tourist trap and pretty boring (I go there every second week but would rather not).

I was in Shenzhen but didn't have time to stay for long... next time.

We will send you a cup cake with a picture of Hong Kong on it - ok?

when i was growing up in hong kong, the first ever pinball i played was at school.

the school that i went to was catholic, and every sunday it would open up for the community to go in to play games/ socialise. you could skateboard, play table tennis, and yep, you could even play pinball!

all i can remember is that it had a sports theme. i went between 1980-1982. i doubt i would even recognise it if it was presented in front of me, but what would be the best way of finding a list of sports themed pinball machines from that period and earlier? maybe i can find a bunch of them and ask my older brothers if they remember.

in my mind it had the style/ layout of "Memory Lane"
It would narrow it down if you can remember whether it was an EM (= mechanical score reels) or Solid State (= electronic score displays).

A pinball machine in Hong Kong (back in those days) could have been Sterns early attempt to crack the Chinese market - they sold several "NBA" to China and Chinese speaking countries as much of the playfield was written in Chinese. I have personally seen one of these in China (mainland). Here is an excerpt from IPDB:

"Gary Stern and Ray Tanzer started the design of NBA. It was originally to be made for China only. When the [Stern personnel] downsizing happened it was then decided that NBA would go into the mix as a regular production game."
