Hi lads.
Im looking for my first pin.
Im after a Gottleib Wedge head of any design.
Ive been bidding on a Grand Slam thats currently on ebay but as I dont know what the market is like have no idea what I should be bidding up to.
Just after a vintage pin to start off my collecting......
Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

Be wary of the prices of EM's on Ebay at the moment, there is some crazy money being asked. A general rule I go by with EM's is nothing is worth more than £300 unless its a particularly rare or desirable game or a really nice restoration :)

Wow! Thanks for that!
I lost the Gottlieb Grand Slam and I bid 500!!!!!!
I really haven't a clue apart from its what I want, If I hadn't joined here Id have probably bid higher.......
I love vintage pins, Its my dream to have one, Id even sacrifice my arcade cabs to fit one in and/or fund getting one!!

At the end of the day, you should pay what your happy with if it's a game you really want. I use my £300 rule as no EM is worth more than that to me...you may be different :) But in general EM's are worth a lot less than SS pins. Also bear in mind that the difference between working and non working is pretty minimal when it comes to EM's. Most of them stop working if they haven't been played for a while so as long as all the bits are there, nearly all of them can be got working with a bit of time and effort.

I would definitely advise trying to play a few different wedge heads if you can as I've found that some older games can be good fun but others are dull as f*ck and it's hard to tell just by looking at them :D

Also beware certain sellers on EM machines as we have a family from the Blackpool area that are not quite what they seem. As well as shilling auctions they sell sub standard machines, please check out Pinball Paradise on this forum and search elsewhere. I would not like to see a new guy get burned.
Most people in this hobby are some of the best you will ever meet but as in most hobbys it only takes one bad seller and they are around in every hobby you might get into.
The Pinball Paradise lot have a few different user names on eBay so please read up on them.
As always tread with care when buying machines, and if in doubt about anything ask on here first. There are a few EM people on here but most on group are into the later machines, but help can still be obtained.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the advice, the table I lost on evilbay was from Blackpool...... Interesting......
I'm just waiting in for my Taito Trimline to be delivered so will continue my research as to where I can get a table from..... also watching Special When Lit again lol!
Cant wait for my Phoenix Project to get here!
Ive spent the morning moving furniture round to make space to work on it and somehow Ive ended up with enough room to fit about 3 pins aswell as the new arcade cab!!!!!!!

Hi Otto,

I too started with EMs and am now moving on to SS machines, I recently managed to get a great Shadow machine.
I have a Gottlieb Aquarius that is next to move out of the gaming garage! (http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=79)
It has a number of issues but if you are looking for a mostly working, nearly complete but cheap machine then it may do the job!

It's worst points are:
Playfield lights not working. They did but I can't find out why they don't yet.
No chime unit - didn't have one when I bought it and they are around £100 so I didn't bother getting one.
40+ years old and looks rather like it!

I have added the photos I have on me, if you are at all interested then I can fully photo it and add them over the weekend.

Price wise as the guys said, not over £300 for an EM really. I got this on ebay for a little over that but the lighting was ok then. This one needs work etc so something around £200 could be ok.
