Gold wire ramps

I've rubbed down and polished up chrome ramps before using abrasive pads (of differing grades) but what options are there for gold ramps? I'm expecting any pitting/rust on these and use of said pads will just rub off the gold colour?

Anyone here cleaned these up before? Ta.

I had to clean very rusty gold wire forms on my bighurt. Inevitably there will be some compromise but short of having them re plated, I used Mr Replicas wet tin foil technique. Seemed to be ok. They weren't as vibrant and gold as they were before.
Is it going to be a minter? If so might be worth re plating.

I've used Belgom Alu on on gold wireforms before - http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Belgom.html
Doesn't scratch (have used it on automotive parts also) and the wireforms came up looking better than I thought they would/could.

Have just noticed that they now have a new product 'Belgom Chromes' that they state is 'A non-abrasive polish that will not scratch' - might be worth trying.

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks for the tips ! Just been to look at a ToM in need of refurb, this is one of several things that need work.... Good to know there's a likely alternative to tin-foil/scotch padding them. Cheers.

Only way to have nice shinny gold or brass wire forms is to get them re-plated, As said they will clean up but trying to remove the pitting also removes the gold.

Guess it depends on how bad they are to start with.
I thought these were pretty shot...

but they ended up like this after using the Belgom Alu

appreciate the pics are not the same 'format', but hopefully gives a good impression of before and after.
