I was hoping to get some forum advice. In anticipation of the new Funhouse 2.0 release, I just sourced a Funhouse from a forum member @Rossco . In his own words advised “it is in very good condition” and has had a lot of work on it by Bob at Pinball Toys, very clean and agreed £3,300 for it.

Admittedly, whilst I didn’t receive many photos, I spoke at length with Nigel on the phone, I asked many questions as to the condition of the machine and in particular the playfield and he assured me its in very good condition and there was a couple of marks which Bob at Pinball Toys painted carefully and mylared over. On reflection I should have asked for more photos and I’ve purchased quite a few pins from forum members and have always got them as described.

Anyways I received the machine today and apart from a tatty cabinet and corroded legs which I could replaced, I am shocked at the condition of the playfield, which to me looks completely mullered.

I immediately got in touch with Nigel who quickly got very defensive when I asserted the playfield is absolutely mullered and more than a couple of touch ups done and I asked to return for a full refund he hanged up the phone on me. I have never asked for a refund before but to me such is the condition it’s completely opposed to what was described. I haven’t asked for some sort of discount and don’t think it’s unfair to ask for a full refund and I take responsibility at my expense to return it back.

Whilst I didn’t get as many photos as I should have, I have it in writing from him that its very clean and very good condition which I think is anything but the actual case.

Could some of the more experienced forum members let me know their thoughts as to how fairly described the condition of the machine was in lieu of the pics. Am I being overly picky here?

I feel for you. @Ads Nems after receiving your JP2 LE in immaculate condition I might add I know you look after your pins. This condition is shocking. That playfield needs replacing I wouldn't even try a repair job here. I hope this gets resolved for you as this is going to cost you another £1k just to fix this.

I thought after the whitewater incident people would be more accurate with sales.

this has certainly had a very hard life, no one would have bought this seeing these photos.
Good luck with this one.

Cannot say I'd describe that as anything better than players condition and would have to describe the many flaws before I hoped anyone would pay that kind of money. Sorry to hear that - I should think a refund applicable. Eek.

For @Rossco to say it’s very nice and clean with little wrong with the playfield isn’t just a stretch it’s a complete lie. He even kept asserting on the call that Bob @pinballtoys would back up his opinion of the machine .

To slam the phone down when I requested I return it for a refund to me shows he knows he didn’t give it an honest description

To be fair he's only got 3 posts on this forum so I'd say he was after doing a hit and run.

Latest message from @Rossco. Apparently I am being picky and even Bob @pinballtoys agrees there’s nothing wrong with the machine ? Bob if that is truly your opinion would you mind confirming that on here ?

Just for clarity I've never 'painted carefully and mylared over' anything, especially on this machine.
I don't do cosmetic stuff and never touched this playfield with paint etc EVER
Yes I have fixed electrical/mechanical problems with this game, thats it, I've changed the display for an LED version, replaced sector gear in Rudy stuff like this

if you buy a 30 year old machine without asking for photos and/or seeing in person!
Its not for me to judge/comment on the condition of machines - that's for the seller & the buyer to establish and agree

Please leave me out of this thread

That's my POV - i just fix machines!

Cheers Bob

Bob I appreciate your response and for the record I have absolutely no axe to grind with you but the seller @Rossco keeps referring to you and that even after I called him to express my disappointment with the condition received, he then wrote that he checked with you and you advised you agree that I am being picky about its condition .

Surely there is no way you would agree it’s in good condition and I am being picky about the playfield in particular ? It’s shot to pieces

Clearly dishonest behaviour from the seller.

That being said, it seems like you did buy a machine blind from someone with no reputation or history on this site...

I'm sorry for your loss. All I can say is thank you for sharing and hopefully we can all learn from this.

Apparently I’m just being fussy according to his message
You're not being picky, condition isn't even average, let alone good. Cabinet is tatty & playfield poor. I can't recommend a solicitor but I think that's the route you'll have to take.

For the avoidance of any doubt

Adam You had every opportunity to inspect or ask for more detail you knew I was buying family guy and I need to sell mine I wanted more money than you offered I never misrepresented the position the machine is an old machine which is in my view in good condition for a machine that is that old the cosmetic side of the playfield iis down to you as a buyer to inspect the machine is second hand used and in full working order

If you had any doubts you should asked to inspect at no time did I refuse or would have refused maybe post this on the forum

I have saved all your messages and I will use these to defend my position if you wish to proceed with a misguided claim

You should have inspected the machine if you had any doubts as to the condition

Why did you not inspect ?

As I said I am not entertaining any of this nonsense

I have notified my household insures through my household legal expense policy

Good luck

Having purchased many pins over the years on this forum, i have encountered some of the nicest, honest most genuine people and up until today had never had anything but a good experience .

With all those positive prior experiences and @Rossco advising it was a very nice clean example I was lulled into a false sense of security and trust that this seller had given an honest and fair account just like the dozens of others had done.

I’ve had to learn the hard way that conmen unfortunately do exist on this forum, and hope it’s a lesson for others too.

It’s stories like this that put the fear of god into me !
As I’m yet to buy my first pin, when I do, it’s got to be a nib stern
I would be devastated after handing over my hard earned cash

That is not in good condition the playfield is trashed ramp entrance smashed that is an as is players condition pinball for me that’s £1500 worth for a full restoration
Exactly my thoughts.

Saying that, if any of you (hopefully the original seller) is willing to minimise the loses, I'd be ready to buy it for that price. Clearly as a project.

If you buy from a long-standing member who has sold several pins and has a good reputation you will be absolutely fine. That being said, do go and inspect and play the machine before sending any cash.

Membership on this public website is free and only takes a few clicks - not exactly a badge of honour in itself.

Don't let it completely put you off buying from the forum, the majority for sale/ trades go fine. I bought my 2nd pin from @Marvello on the forum and it was a smooth and good experience for me (hopefully for him too!) I had been on the forum a bit before I bought from here and had seen him post a bit and seen from his history he had sold on here before with everyone being happy so that gave me more confidence.

He was also very nice and walked me through the process as I hadn't done it before. As a result I'm very happy to have got an almost new machine with a whole bunch of mods on it for a fair bit cheaper than nib. I don't think I would have bought from someone I hadn't seen on the forum much without going to collect it myself though.

Don't let bad apples put you off this great community.

Inspect where you can, ask for videos and pictures if you can't and ask people on the forum about the persons history.

If they have less than 10 posts go see the invidual in person. Some people will happily sell you something knowing full well its over valued and below condition expectations.

I had this with someone off eBay. I wish we didn't have to build trust but since this forum has no feedback system I'll just resort to keeping a 'avoid list'.

I never realised home insurance covered conmen

He got a bargain considering it was offered to me for 4.5k!! Absolutely shocking state for a pin to be in how you couldn't feel like a pos selling this to someone for that kind of money amazes me.. Enjoy the beautiful family guy that this helped you fund, iam sure there won't be many on this forum will be dealing with you in future, a blind man wouldn't call that a good condition pin but then again thinking it was worth that much yourself shows an off the radar level of delusion to begin with.
