Funhouse original cabinet art removal

Hi All

I have managed to acquire a half decent funhouse but the decals are faded.
My plan is to spend some money and go all in with new PF & Mirrored Radcals.

Any suggestions on the best way to remove the original decals. The last one i done, i just used a sander and took ages.
Is there a better method ie Heat Gun, Paint stripper or just shear sanding back to wood?

Any advice would be great

Heat gun and scraper
Sand off/use glue dissolvent to remove glue residue
Wood fill damage/lock bar restraint holes (if any) or resin fill for a better finish
Sand clean 80, 120, then 250 grit.

At this point normally apply a putty primer but radicals are so thick you can likely skip that phase.

Isopropyl alcohol I find works fine, with a putty primer on top I've had zero issues with what you've mentioned.
 
Used a heat gun to remove ES cab art worked well, then sanded off any excess glue.
 
I'm currently on with a Funhouse restore and have the Radcals. I have just sanded the cabinet artwork smooth. Filled any gouges and restored the corners. Sanded again and was planning to fit the radcals over the existing sanded artwork.
The Radcals are pretty thick so wont show any slight imperfections?

did you order the Radcals from mirco i am just about to place an order for the PF and the mirrored cals.

If you have already got them does the quality look ok?

I took the FH project in part ex and it came with a new Mirco P/F and Radcals. I assume the radcals came from Mirco also.
They look nice and shiny under the protective film.

I think there’s a few threads on Pinside about this.
People were complaining that when they installed the Radcals over the top of the old decals, you could still slightly see them through the new Radcals, which surprised me, due to them being a lot thicker than regular decals?

I’ve never used them, so am not sure if this is the case on not.
 
If you are not adding a 2.0 kit then add a pinsound board - it is well worth it.

+1 for Radcals as well from me - so much easier. Make sure you get your edges good - that is all you need to worry about.
 
Thanks for all the advice guys i have ordered the Playfield and Rads. Now doing as much research as possible as this will be my first PF replacement.

Done the cab before with decals but i think the PF gonna be an experience. :eek:
 
What I generally do with rads is removing any loose stuff, fix edges and holes and then paint the cab black over the old decals. Stick rads on, done.
