Anyone know what could be causing this?

Sound is fine to start. Then stops. Drain and then next ball, the sound is fine again. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like the sound board getting hung up. The end of ball sends a reset cmd to the board as a catch-all to stop all sounds and it looks like that's the only thing restoring it.

I'd start with ribbon cable reseat, then ASIC push/reseat.

It's most probably the batteries leaking on the CPU board. Post a picture of it on here please Phil.

I take it you get two bongs when you power on then?

My guess would be corrupted rom chip. Saw this on a YT video of a guy restoring a Hook where the sound kept cutting out. He went into the sound test and on the second test it locked up and sound stopped. He traced it down to a faulty rom chip.

Also, try reseating the sound roms.

If you haven't done this before, gently prise each chip end with a small flat screwdriver until they come loose, be careful not to bend the pins when you remove them and when you put them back in double check that all the pins are in the socket before you push the chips back into place.
