Fish Tales has occasionally reset in the past. I reseated and cleaned connectors and would forget about it till it happened again.

It's currently at the pinball office. Today it reset 2 times.

I put a 5v reset board in to keep it running but it still reset later in the day.

The 5v reset board is by @Homepin and has a LED display.

It reads 4.96v

I run the auto burn in and got no resets and the voltage didn't drop.
I thought a low 5v would cause regular resets and be easy to replicate.

Could it still be the 5v or is there another reason for resets?

Bin the reset board, they can be hopeless at times.

Replace the large 15,000uF capacitors, that should sort it.
Disagree Peter - Ripping those out is the last resort unless very experienced with removing snap-in caps, as you can almost guarantee it'll cause more issues (removing the through holes).

J114 on the power board is the most common problem connector. Reseating this connector, preferably replacing it, cures reset problems in most cases I come across. If there's scorching at J101 replace that too. Bridges and capacitors are rarely required to be changed and you should not attempt it unless you have reasonable experience with a soldering iron.

Theres many others that follow that train of belief nowadays... I get previously the goto's would have been Caps.. and it still could be possible having ruled out other stuff first :)

I suppose he could reflow (or replace) the connectors first (I would have expected that to have been done already anyway).

It's not something I normally recommend but if the game can't support the reset board like this one, I've typically found it to be one of the capacitors. Given that they're from the same batch, installed and used for the same length of time - if one is one it's way out, they all will be. Yes, they're a bugger to get out and it has to be done very carefully. The other possibility is to buy a replacement driver board...

I only use reset boards as a quick fix to get a game through an event or keep it running till I can get the board out.

I've only changed snap in caps once, on a wpc89 sound board. I didn't pull any through holes luckily.
Are the ones on the driver boards likely to be similar or tougher?

I've had a lot of advice here and via PMs. Just need to get fish tales back from the office before I can truly investigate unless I pop down there for a day and try do it. To be fair @Hiltoncriss does have some decent equipment and a nice work bench😄

Roadshow is on loan (I know😲), that's started resetting too. So looks like I've goto get a few of those caps and possibly the 5v regulator.
