OK guys, I'm ready to take the plunge....I just got dealed out of a Dr. Dude that was basically sold to me so I need to get something else now

I'm looking for my first pin. A nice pin that's in very good condition and ready to play. Not afraid of doing a bit of work on it but I just don't want a project pin for my first one. A 90's DMD machine would really be my cup of tea. A few I have in mind are JD, DM, TFTC, TS, BSD but not limited to that list so let me know what's available. Would like a TOM aswell but I think that might be out of my price range

Now here's the bad part, I would need to have the machine shipped to me in south east Ireland. Now sure if thats a common request with sales here but I'm finding it very difficult to get my hands on a machine over here. If anyone on the forum is from Ireland with a machine to sell let me know but I doubt it

I'll have about £800-£1000 to spend on the machine with whatever else it costs to ship it.

Thanks everyone, hopefully ye can sort me out

I think your budget is too low to get any of those machines (or any 90s DM machine) that's in very good condition and ready to play. I picked up a FT for £900 but it needed a LOT of work.

You may get lucky and find a machine for a grand, but it won't be in excellent condition unfortunately. Alas, ur budget is a little low. More 1000-1300 imo.

Then you have the shipping. Now that's the killer blow imo.
A courier would deliver in a van and I'd have thought to get a van across on a ferry would be 300 ish with a total delivery charge of around 500. Others on here maybe able to help and give suggestions. If you have an estate car, you'd be better collecting yourself.

All the best in your search

JD, TFTC and DM should hopefully still be available for under a grand. Think you would have to go up a bit for the other two. Got no idea how you would get it over to Eire. Does Shipley still exist? Think if you use a dedicated service like Martin it'll end up being way too expensive to be viable.

Dont want a project pin for your first pin!?! Why not? From personal experiance, although its a huge learning curve, you dont regret it in the end, its the only way you will get to know your way round a pin and regardless of how good condition it is, they all need constant tweeking. If i hadnt got myself a project (although it wasnt supposed to be) i dare say id still be puzzled as to how the glass comes off.

I suppose ye could be right about getting a project pin. I was offered a LW3 yesterday

"It needs a good bit of work, damage to 1 corner of the cab, no sound, dmd not working, wiring issues??? but I did manage to get it to play, playfield is in great condition. €350"

What would ye reckon?

Well I just paid 1050 for a jd and had to completely strip the playfield as was filthy. Looks amazing now but put another 100 into it at least with parts :( so I hope they don't sell for less than a grand john :)

Jack that sucks about the Dr.Dude but sit tight with your cash,
Something will come up in Ireland.
I think your lack of transport is going to be a killer.
If anything comes up around Dublin let me know and I can go take a look/grab it and it keep it safe :)

Lw3 was my 1st machine. Great game and at that price of approximately £300 go for it. Be mad not too and u can tinker with it as much as you like. Almost worth it in parts alone if you broke it down.

Absolutely. I'd pick it up for £300 no worries. If you fix it up 100% it's a great learning curve and you get a good pin at the end. If it's too far gone then it's worth breaking for bits.

As much as the machine winds me up (only a personal preference) lots like it and it'll get you on the ladder - and also the price is a steal!!

Thanks man! I'll keep you in mind, wonder if I could fit a machine into a polo though? :D

Think I might go for the lethal weapon then. Sure even if I dont love the machine I can put some money into it and and sell it on to fund another one. Be good for me to learn and better sooner than later.

Just emailed the guy and asked him for some pictures

Hi Jack. The LW3 does sound quite a good deal. Sure it's got some issues but if it plays that's a great start! €350 is currently £287, so definitely a deal! I'd be tempted if, as you say, the playfield is in good condition. In my experience, sorting out playfield damage is the hardest repair, but it depends on what skills you already have and what you're willing to have a go at and learn. For example, I'm fairly clued-up about electronics so it wasn't a problem fixing the dead motherboard in my '79 Bally Paragon or completely stripping and rebuilding the power supply, but I'm hesitating over what to do with the knackered playfield. But most pinball tinkering can be done with a couple of spanners, nut driver, screwdriver, pliers and soldering iron. And as others mentioned, no matter how good the condition is to start with, even brand-new-in-box, every pin needs constant adjustment and maintenance to keep it playing well. They are complex electro-mechanical devices that take a beating. And paying someone else to service it is very expensive!

£287 quid! if you dont have it, im sure someone will. even if you have to spend 300 quid on it, its still worth more than what you have put into it so long as its good condition, id say a good condition LW3 is worth about 1k.

Hell, offer the bloke €300 . Can only say no. Would be more of a bargain.

Well I still havnt gotten any pictures of it yet but I've been told by someone thats has seen it that it could be a bit of a money pit so I'll let ye know when i do, I'll throw up some pictures here and see what ye all think

My £400 LW3 only had about £100 of parts into it to get it 100%, great machine to test the water with, brilliant machine to do your first 'tear down' on too as the playfield is pretty straight forward.

A gilligans Island just came up for sale in Ireland, €1450 is te4 asking price

I dont think thats a machine that gets much love in these parts:rofl:

Haha thats what I thought, I looked up some youtube videos of it being played. Christ the music would go through you!
