The manufacturers are to blame. There is no real reason why we should have 3 versions of every new title, especially when the entry level pro has a ramp or a mech or even a playfield missing!

It was JJP that pushed up prices, the market could stand it so Stern joined in. At that point it moved almost entirely to home sales, the pro versions are for the remaining operators and those that can't afford the Premium/LE/Extra Limited/Flogging a dead horse versions. If there is demand then good business for the manufacturers.
