Hi

I am having trouble starting this machine. I have replaced the Startup Coil and a few others but nothing seems to help. I have replace to all the fuses to their correct values and I press the button and it starts and stops then pressing it again it starts for longer and then completely dies although it still has power going through it as some of the coils will work if pressed so i am at a loss to understand why it wont start. Another thing if i manually spin the score reels they will trundle back to zero after 2 or 3 pushes so it feels like there is something just stopping play. Also the flippers and the paly field does not have power except the lights all switch on when i press the button then all go out again.Any help would be greatly appreciated

It seems you are also having trouble with operating pinball info's bold-text feature, making this post horrible to read ;)

You might want to edit this and un-bold it all.

The game needs to reset properly in order to start a game. generally on EMs this involves the score motor in the bottom of the cab rotating round to reset everything: both players scores to zeros, resetting the player up counter, zero any bonus stepper counters etc. usually it’s a switch on the score reels or one of those other bonus counters that isn’t closing ( or opening).

Really need a schematic of the game to see what switches it looks at during it’s reset cycle. have to got the schematics?

Yes i have but its not a great copy very faint in places and some missing in parts but most of it is there but i am not very knowledgeable about schematics and find it very hard to follow

I can’t read those pics unfortunately. you are looking for the part of the circuit that resets the game. it will be easy enough to find as will have a whole lot of switches on the score reels as it needs to detect when they have all reset to zero.

Hi

Many thanks for trying i thought after they uploaded that you would have difficulty so i enhanced the bottom of the schematic still very faint in places Is it possible to indicate which picture has the area i should be concentrating on as i am a complete novice when it comes to schematics. many Thanks for your help

Thanks will try

Can not really comment as I still have not got my surf side up and running yet after 2+ years ,I just don’t have the Time . The only thing I can suggest is to strip all the relays down and clean , I have personally found some incorrect parts fitted to the coil relays and springs missing ,mine is a none runner when I bought it though !

Thats my problem she was working fine last time she was used but she has been stored for 15 years which i know is not a good thing to do with these machines but i have cleaned everything i can but i am starting to think there is just a setting wrong on startup but being a novice i have trouble reading the schematics but as you say they are very time consuming i might resort to one of these travelling EM machine repairers but that wont be cheap.

Some where on the diagram will be a key code for the wire’s etc also it’s will tell you which switches should be open or closed on start up , as mine is a gottlieb my diagram looks completely different , there is a few people on here which can help but I can’t remember who they are to be fair
