Drop target constantly firing

On 24 there are 4 pop up targets 2 of which being in the middle of the playfield. The left one when engaged constantly fires until its nocked back down almost like it thinks it hasnt raised yet. You can here and feel a constant "pop pop pop" while it bounces and makes the pf bounce too. none of the other 3 targets do this. what can i do to stop it?

I assume you mean drop targets. On the back of them there will be a little circuit board with a pair of optos that tell the machine when the target is down. It could be a faulty opto but quite likely it's just the connection where the wires are plugged into the circuit board. Try pulling the connector off the circuit board and pushing it back on. I've seen this problem a few times with stern drop targets. ( ACDC and GOTG ). Hopefully it's as simple as that.

yeah sorry drop targets lol and will give that a check tomorrow hopefully its a simple fix, thank you :)

Opto issues can also be caused be a bit of grime on the optos themselves (transmitter and/or receiver). They can be easily cleaned using some high alcohol content isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud though.

reseated the connectors, strangley the right one was barely on but works fine and the left one was on all the way but reseated it just incase, still the same. when i can get the playfield up full ill take a look at cleaning it up just gotta move a shelf off the wall first 😂 @David_Vi whats the service bulletin you mentioned? sorry still not great at using forums

Hopefully Criss will come and share. But I believe it's this issue?

Service bulletin

Video of the issue and how to fix it, assuming it's the same issue?

ah not quite, with my issue the target will raise and will drop if hit however when its up it will constantly fire as if the target is down, none of the other targets do this. it works as it should but wont stop trying to fire if that makes sense

Defo related to the optos in some way, maybe dirty, dodgy solder connection to opto ( reflow may fix ), dodgy crimp within connector etc. You could try swapping the 2 opto boards over, would take 5 mins. See if fault follows the board.

Yeah I plan on getting the pf lifted and giving it a good look over tomorrow/Tuesday. Hopefully its just dirty as by the looks of it the game hasn't really been well looked after. It's not terrible by any means but it's rather grubby and dirty. Will post back once I've gave it a look over.

so managed to get the playfield up today, took the opto board off and cleaned it up but still the same issue. going to switch it over to the right one tomorrow and see if the issue moves, if it does is it a case of a new board?

update, apologies for spam. took both boards off to compare. noiced the on the faulty one the sensor itself was pretty loose with some bad solder joints on the underside. Reflowed the solder and got it nice and secure. Put the faulty board on the "good" side. the problem is still there and has moved with the board however not its not firing as ofter as it did, sometimes 1 extra time sometimes 2-3 extra compared to before where almost ever second it would fire. So im guessing there maybe a broken leg or pin maybe on the sensor. Ill get a new board ordered then maybe play about with this one.

Sounds like you're getting to the bottom of it. Does the solder on the pins look good? sometimes they crack, reflow to fix. You can also replace the optos themselves but the replacement board shouldn't be expensive anyway.

the solder on the pins looked ok from what i could see but its just a tiny blob on each so hard to tell. from when i first took it off the one rivet had broken free and the sensor was very loose so im guessing a leg may have snapped as the connection to the pins looked solid. Re-attaching the rivets seemed to help but seems like they is still a losse connection somewhere
