What with the cost of energy now is it worth investing in solar energy for home use? I looked at it years ago but would not get the money back probably in my lifetime! Thoughts experiences please?

Cheers Ronnie

Lots of info on the energy prices gone nuts topic. I have just received a price list from a manufacturer in China if anyone is interested inc good pricing on lifepo4 cells

Yup loads of solar experts over in the Energy prices gone nuts thread, I had a 4.8kw system with a 5.6kw battery installed start of may and am super happy with it, was able to pretty much be off grid all summer and still mostly am now but due to short days / cloud am starting to hit it a little now. With it heating my emersion as well was able to turn gas off over summer as well. Just remember if you want to export, make sure it's installed my a qualified installer so you get all the certs (or you wont be able to get paid for excess power you put onto the grid)

Its the gas killing me now the boiler is getting used again 10p from 4p ouchy! Hoping installing smart TRV's will enable me to run the boiler far less this winter!

4.2 kW array
13.5kW Tesla PowerWall
Over year will generate 40% of my electric needs. Powerwall gives access to a Tesla Energy Scheme and I have £0.1124 for import and export all day.
It isn’t just about ROI for me. It is about being resilient and reducing my dependency on a fluctuating market.
Read the thread, loads of information in it.

yes worth it .I got mine 7 years ago £6K and they paid for themselves last year.We turn the gas boiler of for four summer months and use the immersion heater for hot water timed for daytime. So not much bill at all over summer. In addition 15 panels earn us £600 cash ish per year at 16pkwh on top of what we use ourselves .

Our imersion was ripped out when we upgraded to a combi boiler, so we have hot water on demand for the showers, not ideal now lol

Ronnie I've just replaced my water tank with a smart model, tank is 12yrs old (300litres) should still have 3 years warranty left if you want it?

Thanks Chris, not sure tbh our tank was in a bedroom and the cupboard it was in was ripped out! Could be an option if we do get solar tho, sure I would find somewhere to fit it, also like the shower running off the combi plenty flow compared to electric showers

Thanks Ronnie

just been quoted £7k for 9x 370W panels (6 on WSW roof, 3 in pods on a South flat roof), plus an Eddie for Home water control and consumer unit upgrade.
It was just nuder £13k when adding an 8-9KwH battery!
our usage is high - 12,000kwh per year.

Installed 7x TADO TRV's, average £35 each (some new, some used off a friend who's moving to an all-electric house), also had loft fully insulated - hoping it makes a slight difference this year.

Log burner has been on a few nights, keeping the chill off.

Annoyingly my pinshed/office is standalone in the garden, so needs a 1200w heater on some of the time. Roughly now onwards really. It's reasonably well insulated too.

Just had 10 panels, 3.6kwh system, fitted at my sons house. £4.7k MCS certified. I hunted down the firm doing all the council/government subsidised systems in the area for the best price. Others wanted £6-7k

This is for a 5 bedroom house, we do have a wood burner going in winter but solar saves a fortune

good idea. Maybe I'll try that instead.
