I noticed the other day that the top line on my DMD is out on my TAF. If you apply a little pressure to the front of the display it fixes the issue.

I've read this can be a damaged trace and was just wondering if anyone offered a relatively cheap repair service for DMDs? It looks like it may have had a previous repair (epoxy)

Cheers

Bit messy but I have done a few just a case of dremel a bit of the glass away to reveal enough of the pin to solder too

@strongs_uk

Could you let us know how you get on pls as I for one have a couple of dmds that would benefit from repair

The DMD itself is nice and bright no issues (apart from the one line) would seem a shame not to save it. I'd really like to get it fixed.

I would but my only compatible pin is folded up until spring and then it will be a resto, spare you not willing to have a go, there is a how to online somewhere

If you have the right glass buffing bits for a dremel it's easy enough just take your time and get enough of the trace to get a decent solder patch, again you need a decent iron and maybe some flux.

That has worked for you but it's a brittle fix as is the conductive paint, dremel job is more permanent

I did dremel the glass with a diamond wheel. I didn't go past the first gasket because a didn't want the gas to leak.

Right that will be fine then, you said you never used a dremel at first lol, it's the only way really, I bought a full set of glass grinding bits of various sizes years ago, I think I ever repaired 3 pins in a row bottom right of dmd.

I have a friend who repairs them, although unfortunately, he was telling me that each line repair was taking him the best part of a day - and if there were two or three, it just wasn't worth it. He's pretty good at the repairing / diagnosing of the surface mount chips / parts on the rear. Probably worth an ask? PM me for details!

1. leave the DMD alone !
2. save money and buy a colour DMD at pinball palace
3. plug new one in and enjoy :thumbs:

I managed to 'fix' this myself last night. I simply bent the right and left metal latch that holds the speaker / dmd panel in place, this made it a slightly tighter fit which creates enough pull to light the missing line :thumbs:
