The DMD on my I500 has developed a problem in the last week or so with random dots/patterns/flickering.

First noticed it after it had been in use for the best part of a couple ours when my daughter had a load of friends around - found the display was displaying completely random shapes & patterns. Turning off & on seemed to fix.

In the last week though have noticed that random dots/shadowing appearing during use, which seems to get worse the longer the game is in use:

I've tried to insert/attach video , but not sure it is showing.

I'm guessing a loose connection, but any suggestions?

NB: probably unrelated, but all the high scores on the machine seem to have reset & I'm pretty certain I didn't do it!

Do you have another machine you could swap the DMD driver board with?

The high scores resetting could be the auto reset after a set number of games setting in the settings. I have that turned off on all mine as it happened to me once. Also check your batteries.

I'd certainly be re-seating the ribbon cables on the DMD driver board. When this happened on my FT it was the static RAM on the DMD driver board. About £3.

The other end of the ribbon cable. Typically top right in B/W machines. As Xenon said above reseating cables would probably be the best place to start.

The 'high scores' have an automatic reset, based on an adjustable number of games played; as Kev says, it can be disabled altogether. But it doesn't include the Grand Champion score - that only returns to a back-up value during a factory reset, from using the 'Reset H.S.T.D' utility, or because of battery failure (which causes a factory reset).

Thanks for all the suggestions & knowledgeable advice (as ever!) guys.

New batteries installed - previous ones 11 months old ( thank you to previous owners @Fintan Stack or @kevlar for post-not on backboard), ribbon cable 'waggled' on top right and first impressions are all looking 'fine & dandy' again with no random dots/ patterns on the DMD :clap::thumbs:

Only been able to test it with 1 game tonight, but hopefully give it a more thorough test tomorrow night
