Supposed to be going to see(hopefully picking up) a jurassic park 2 tomorrow for little money.
Haven't seen it yet but apparently the DMD has issues/is ****ed.

I was looking at this DMD

http://www.bestofpinball.de/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/86

A friend says he has one I can have (a choice of two)
ones from a creech and ones from a sttng
All 3 games are listed on the best of pinball compatibility list.

so

my Q is really will both the creech dmd and the sttng simply drop in?

Sure while I have a DMD thread.
How come my TFTC DMD needs a rom and my getaway doesn't?
Thanks again!

Top man Carl,
one thing I've yet to mess around with is a DMD (thank Jubus)
when I updated the roms for my TFTC I had a rom chip or the DMD.
Not he case when I updated my getaway hence the question .
Thanks again!

Carl's right about the DMD controller boards, but there's also that issue about a display-specific Rom chip. It boils down to different generations of hardware. Data East were the first to use a Dmd, with their equivalent of a System 11 main board (it even resembles a Sys 11 board). That hadn't been designed to use a Dmd, so the display controller had more to do (needing extra software), while the later Williams WPC system simply uses a larger memory chip on the main board, and sends dot images to the display controller.

you'll never believe it.
went to see the pin and the guy couldnt find the keys.
he had a **** ton of keys but no joy,
anyway he powered it up for me and no DMD.
He left to find more keys and I rebooted it and the ROM version came up clear as day!
So he didnt see it on.
Couldnt find the keys so i coined it up and had a game.
made him a silly offer and he said yea!
got one of his lads to help move it down the stairs and gave him 20 euro and I was gone!

Got it home.
drilled the locks.
DMD ribbon was disconnected!
plugged her in and all systems go!
Found a NOS topper under the PF too!

games needs a real deep clean but seems to be 100% inc the snagger!

I find releasing them from the hands of an operator is never easy.

I've made a few offers so far and they just don't want to sell - unless of course you want to pay silly money for a busted up pin.

Yea it's the Sega one.
It's the white star system.
Seems a million miles ahead software wise of my HS2 and tftc.
Am I right in saying it's still used in modern stern pins?

The Gi is out. only fault I've found so far. And the t Rex egg is cracked where it's bolted on.

Stern Currently use S.A.M.

Whitestar went through a couple of iterations, after they bought SEGA over they created a modified version of the Whitestar system where they upgraded the audio hardware.

Last machine to use the original Whitestar was T3.
