One of George Gomez's greatest!

Martin's magic van turned up and helped me get the machine from storage to home to start the restoration.

Stay tuned.

Right so I get the thing inside the gameroom.

The game has a flat base with six leg levellers that collapse as they can't take the weight. This means they all suffer from hideous drag damage.

I've been hoarding parts for years and have ready:

New CPO (update: can't find the CPO! :( )
Spare boardset
New rear glass artwork
New floor decal
Manual

Assessing the game I decide to tackle the base and make it beautiful before standing it upright to strip and restore.

Anyhow it's in!

So let's assess the bottom damage. It's pretty rough and will need filler. Luckily it's all in the black so should restore well.

I decide to stick a skid pan on the thing to raise the edges to stop it from happening again.

Various pictures of the start of the process. I pull off some of the vinyl get my gear out and make a jig and start sorting the base.

As it's just chipboard and gets crumbly, I use wood hardener as recommended by the wood filler companies. I remove any loose bits and get to work.

I leave the jig in place for around 5 days.

Whilst it's stood up on its back I want to accomplish two things.

Sort the rear 45 degree section and stick the skid pan on. I decide on marine ply.

Max helps me which was nice!

I now have to position the 700lb lump to lay it down to start the prep work for sorting the bottom edges.

I'll tackle one side at a time.

Boom one side more or less done other than some refinements.

Time to tackle the other side.

As it lay it down ready to tackle the other side I check out the pantone colours for any touch ups it might need and clean the top section.

Time to install the Happ Controls pica vinyl back on the rear end that I took off.

Almost time to stand it up.

What paint you touching up with Oll? Decided yet?
People band about the term "Grail Game" left, right and centre. eDOT however IS a Grail game. Uncommon and beautiful. Would I have one I had space? Absolutely, no question.

I'm not actually happy with the pantone chart I have here as it isn't a perfect match so I've held off until I find a better more inclusive chart (they seem CRAZY expensive), or some colour analysis tool that I've seen online but people have said they aren't perfect.

Was hoping someone online had posted the RAL colours but I can't find anything.

The plan was to get RAL matching acrylic pens for the touch ups as it only has minimal marks.

You usually can get Pantone colour pretty close to an off the shelf RAL scheme. You will though more than likely need other colours to tint (then match) and tint again.
For example the lilac a straight - white, blue, red & even black may need to be added to get the colour dead on. I always end up tinting everything!

Bear in mind Acylic isn't that permanent, if you don't seal it lacquer it can easily wipe off during cleaning. It can be a PITA but it's fun once you get the hang of it.

Bear in mind no-one can accurately match through photos but probably about 75% of white & 25% RAL 4008 might get you close.

Give one a go! I remember seeing one a few years back but I think the system was about £1,000. If it helps you get close to your colour then it's worth it.
Colour matching in all industries is an art upon itself, not everyone can do it, but any advantage you can get is good.

This is looking awesome. As a quick reminder i make new speech boards for this game (and the regular upright version to add in the missing board), so that could be an option if you are stuck on the speech board, or your original dies, or you want a backup. I've helped out alot of people with these games in the USA over the last 8-10 years :)

Might be cheaper to ask you to come round 😂😂

They did do chopped uprights from the factory apparently. Obviously a few operator ones also.

Got into the coin door and I've removed the control panel which is utterly filthy.
Wow! That is pretty nasty! All wiring and parts still there? Is the original cpo salvageable after a clean or is it time for a new repro one?? Original would be sweet if possible
