As titled just picked up a Data East Phantom of the Opera. Absolutely brilliant game. Not found another one of these since for 30+ years. Had one at home when we were kids, but that was it.
Spent the last few days sorting all the faults out and tbh thoroughly enjoying playing this one. The music and sounds are mint hahahaha, i totally forgot how good they are. Data East rocking beats at their best in Digital Stereo
Repair list
- Fixed intermittent attract lamp issue/weird non start issue
- Fixed non working kickback
- Fixed intermittent AC select relay and 50v coil selection
- Rebuilt Flippers
- Replaced ~10 burned out Flasher bulbs
- Replaced ~15 burned out feature lamp bulbs
Game condition is as is. ie i haven't done a full strip down and rebuild both sides. And to be honest i'm tempted to keep it and do that, but i do have other things to fix and more games coming so..
It's a nice example with very good playfield and backglass. There are some small wear areas on the playfield which i have tried to take pics of and also some knocks and dings on the cabinet as you would expect. But it's a nice honest original. Cabinet is not faded and has a really lovely stencil job in red and gold with black base. Playfield surface is good. Has mylar on main area. Ramp is not damaged or cracked at entrance either. Organ is in decent shape. No broken plastics that i can see. Main display is original alphanumeric and in perfect shape. Nice and bright, No burn or segments out. Backless looks perfect. mirroring all good. Had new power supply pcb and nvram fitted to cpu, so no batteries needed.
Few minor things to note. (see pics etc)
- the cpu board was repaired by someone else before, ie not me and does have some old acid damaged in the top left hand corner. Also some of the sockets fitted for some pins would not be my choice on how to do it !
- The lockdown bar edges are alittle knocked so maybe needs a repowder coat.
- main wear area (touched up by someone years ago, is just below flippers. Some near shooter lane exit and around pops
- backglasss looks perfect and has no damage from damp etc afaict, all mirroring perfect, but someone did paint the back of it with varnish or something years back (to protect it i assume). which is now yellowed, but it doesn't seem to effect anything. Front backglass decals are all there, some have a few chips as you would expect for front facing decals/screen print.
- playfield is mylared, but there is a wrinkle in it. Not noticeable but is there.
- stab wound in one of the speaker grills!! (RHS)
Welcome to come and inspect, play, enjoy and i will go through everything i have mentioned.
