Data East GI question

Hey peeps

I have some gi out on WWFRR. A few random bulbs dotted all over the pf. They are all on the White/yellow wire. So looking at the playfield power board (ppb) I see some hacks and see the connector is missing from J5 and all the wires are soldered to the board. Also the fuses below are soldered in to the broken fuse holders. So I put new fuse clips in and make up a new connector with header pins for J5. Still nothing

So my question is. Are the bulbs daisy chained so if a wire was off one of them, the whole strand would go out?

Or could there be a board component at fault affecting that strand?

Unfortunately I don't have a manual and the ipdb schematics are to blurry to read really.

Lamps are chained in parallel.

But almost certainly a connector issue. The power derives from the upper left power board and passes in and out of the ppb via the fuses.

Thanks Andy. I still have another hack to repair on the power board which does go to J5 on the ppb. Hopefully that'll sort it. I'd just convinced myself the fault was J5.

So that went well!!! Joking I am!!

Spent all evening making up the new connector for CN8 on the power board put new header pins in.....the result....... Still no GI on the White/yellow and now the left half of the backbox GI is out!

Excuse my **** way of putting it but my multimeter is ****. On the setting which has a number 2 on it, between 200m and 20' I get a fluctuating reading of between about 200 and 300 on each pin from CN8 which would suggest there is power from my new connector.?

Any more clues Andy. If not I can see both those boards winging there way to you

you sure the inline z connector in backbox is ok(think it will have one)
Also just check connector near the transformer is ok


Then jsut buy another board from pinball palace!!

Start with a working circuit. Measure the volts on there. Be confident that your meter is reading something meaningful. The meter should be on a low AC scale. Then move one probe at a time between colour sections. All the solid coloured wires are effectively the same as are the striped wires. In this way establish which wire is at fault. Then move the probe back down the circuit to establish where the break in continuity is.
