Complete Creature from the Dank Saloon **Finished** .. Full Pics!!

I managed to change the two faulty driver board transistors last night. CRIKEY. What an epic battle of wills that was. I'm sure rottendog must be using non-leaded solder because they did not come easily. I used a decent soldering iron and solder sucker and still I struggled. If anyone has any useful tips for how to desolder PCB components I could sure use them!

Two hours later I finally had the new ones in. Powered up again, and after a few ribbon cable fiddles, both failing coils now working. Idiot 1, Creech 0.

Are those surface mount or "standard" components?? Standard solder should start to melt around 190C.... lead free solder at 217C....

These guys:

Through hole, so I was desoldering from the back. My iron was set to almost double that 😬 ??

Cheers Paul. Will definitely get one of these if I ever have the guts to get elbow deep in board work again!

I bought one of those desolderstations when they got as low as £60.

On my third gun now.

Once this crisis is over I am buying a used Weller desolder station, my weller soldering station is over 20 years old and going strong.

The cheap desolder is okay if you only use it now and again. If you want one to use more than once a week then I would advise investing. I absolutely hate rottendog products. I suppose they are better than nothing.....

By the way @stumblor - your work looks amazing on the screen printing......

Yeah it was a special price when I bought it a few years ago.

recommended by Poibug and I think it was Dave Rolfe that sent me the link when it was at a great price. Shows you how long ago that was... still greatly missed, such a gent (Knew how to through a party also)

Still waiting for the powdercoaters 😴

In the meantime cracking on with other projects.

PIN2DMD - thanks @MadNat

Aaaaand.. after way too much debugging, an Afterglow GI

Notice the different LED colours which correspond to the different GI lines. Red (brown), orange, yellow, green, purple.

Those capacitors are ugly as hell I'm going to change them for the next build!!

Incredible work mate, it's honestly impossible to believe it's the same machine 😂 one of the best restos I've seen. Can't wait to get flipping on this badboy one day dude!

The whole thing is amazing - love the peeper in the coin slot. The ramps and armour paint totally work and look fantastic
