Hi, I'm just finishing off my TZ with mods, lighting, goodies as such and have a couple of annoying issues.

1. A fair percentage of the time on a ball drain, something is going awry and the end of ball bonus sequence is repeated (but no major awards). However it does keep track of the ball number. It sounds as if it tries to move the ball in the trough or something. I'm sure this is something pretty straight forward and I'll check for screws when I'm in the machine later.

2. I've got a pinsound in and other than startup sounds and confirmation sounds, I get no game sounds. I've got 4-5 other pinsounds and am sure I'm not doing some schoolboy error with the USB stick format. I'm trying to get the chris granner dcs track going (purists look the other way). I'm going to try again later, replace data cables and triple check the usb format on the various memory sticks I've tried - and 3 pinsound cards!

Thanks

I can't! :-)

The last ever WMS pin to use the Yamaha 2151 synth chip and one of the most incredible compositions ever created after the 50 odd previous titles.

Granner is a genius with this one.

I'm sceptical about the story of it having to be converted from DCS last minute because the hardware wasnt ready. The score is so accomplished that I think there was more time spent on the synth/delta version than people think.

Along with eveything else in that pin, it pushes what was 'under the hood' to it's absolute limits and was one of the greatest technical achievements in Pinball since the beginning of the solid state era, and arguably remained so up to Pin2k.

Turn it up to 12, get a jackpot, tell me it doesnt sound pant-wettingly amazing...!!? :-)

Tim

p.s sell me your 'antiquated' sound board? ;-)

To be honest, I actually quite like the original, but curiosity and that cat! Along with WH20 and TAF i'm not using Pinsound in those.

I've got lots of boards and bits and bobs to move on, but I want to do a full listing of them and keep sensible spares, I'll list it all later in the summer. Been meaning to do it for ages, i've 14 machines now and amassed quite a bit.

Not yet, its on my list to double check the optos. I'll get at it later. I still have the proximity error and am reading up on that.

Twilight Zone was the last WMS game to use the older type trough arrangement, so there aren't actually opto switches there, but four micro-switches (five, including the out-hole switch) and the proximity sensor to detect the white Powerball.

The proximity switch has an error, although its recognised in game OK. The double bonus round up happens with standard balls also. I'll check all switches later. I did a test dropping balls in the piano and watching switches and it -seemed- ok but clearly I need to investigate further.

That's a superb noise, right there. Like the fist thumping after defeating the Power.

First time I played TZ was on Santa Monica pier just after it came out, hadn't seen one in the UK at that point.

They had the volume cranked right up  .... I remember getting the Jackpot and literally everyone in the arcade looking over to see what the hell was going on

And so began my love affair with the greatest pinball machine ever made. Yep, the greatest. Fact. Don't bother disagreeing ...its F*A*C*T , as confirmed by my crack team of fact checkers :D

That's the one I meant and it's always a dodgy connector. I removed the connector and wired it without the connector

Yea I agree with what has been said already, putting a Pinsound in a TZ is a travesty. The soundtrack it came with is far better than the DCS one imo.

Regarding your trough issue, the older style ones like this have a 1 way gate that often breaks. Perhaps the balls are bouncing back to the outhole instead of staying where they should be?

Dicky switch in TZ trough. It's too low and not always making contact. Will attempt a simple move/fix/replace.

Thanks, the gate seems OK but i'll pop some lubricant on it.

Yeah it was fine. The wire that triggers the first trough switch wasnt engaging and it's sorted. I've soldered the proximity detector cable and that now seems fine. Two things cleared up. Now to trace some wires on a couple of inserts (bulbs are good) and have a mess with a lane switch and I'm getting somewhere :)
