Hi all - installed a colourDMD on a High Roller Casino and I’m having a few issues now. I turn the machine on and GI and Inserts are fine. No sound or anything on the DMD. Press through the colourDMD menu fine but it won’t show the game. Can’t start one either. Any ideas?

Attached a photo of the DMD

And this cable is loose with seemingly nowhere to go:

So to summarise:
Game is not going in to attract mode, no sound, no DMD unless in Menu and no game can be started

The DMD menu is separate from the machine and only shows that the colordmd has power. Don't know Stern really, but the spare cable is probably the power to the original DMD which you don't need anymore. So the machine is now not booting anymore? Any other connector you disturbed? Are all the voltages there? Think there is a 5V LED on the CPU board. You did something on the 5V supply connecting the new board - might have caused this?

So I turn the game on and all the GI comes on but that’s it, like it’s forgotten what game it is. Unplugged some connectors but plugged them back in. I’ll check the 5V led but I’m not entirely sure where it is - I believe power for the ColourDMD is tapped from the 12V in the cabinet.

If you disconnect the ribbon cable from the game to the ColorDMD, does that let it boot? If not, does disconnecting the ColorDMD's power cable?

Have you removed the memory stick out of interest - you only need it to load software.
Do not need to keep it in!

I would check for battery leakage on your main board.

Also check all the fuses!

I do not think the problem is linked to the colordmd.

Yup completely disconnect the colorDMD and get game booting again, fuse might have blown somewhere.

Hmmmm. I think the trouble might be the +5V LED being out. Taking the display ribbon or the power cable out of the colourDMD doesn’t change anything - still no boot.

Anyone know how to fix the 5V whatever that is?

The main CPU runs off the 5V supply so if that's missing it explains your game not booting. Are you sure you didn't move any other cables/connectors during installation?

Check fuses would be the first port of call... Take each fuse out of the machine and test for continuity using a DMM.

Looks like you have the 5v connector to the display board plugged in the wrong way round (two wire red and black).

Thank you all for the help - off out today to buy a multimeter to test the fuses. Can they be tested in the holders or do they have to be removed?

@mark9 Good spot, that is definitely the wrong way round. Probably killed F23, 4A fuse. Hope nothing else bit the dust...

Well, great guess - tested all the fuses and F23 is bust. Annoyingly I only have 4A fast blow so will have to wait for some slow blow to come in. Hopefully that sorts it.

Normally not, you need to load the right software to it via USB stick.
So a few things which can be wrong now:
- Cabling, have another look at the installation manual and make sure, that all the flat cables are the right way round
- Assume you can still activate the menu on the colorDMD? If not, you may have disconnected the power or such
- You may have damaged something on the DMD board connecting the power the wrong way round. Easiest way to exclude that is reconnecting the DMD.
And T is "Träge", same as slow blow.

And solved - turns out the ribbon cable is a different orientation on the actual board than the manual so swapped it round and it’s all working!

There you go. Now focus on the Shadow and get that working :) .
And generally: Make sure that the red stripe on the cable is on the side with the silkscreened "1" - that usually works.

Oh dear - nothing can ever go right for too long. Played two games on HRC and F25 has blown each game. This was an intermittent issue before, but now it’s blowing a fuse a game instead of once every 3 months.
Any ideas?

That is a 5A SB(T). Seems to be for GI only, so shouldn't be relevant for game play? 12 #555 lamps on the right playfield, WHT-YEL from the fuse, YEL back to the transformer. Probably something shorting due to vibration. Have a look at the cabling.

Replaced the fuse, turned it on and have it a good shake - immediately the fuse blew. Any idea on where to start looking for a short and what to look for?

Ummm, no.
How would I? You're in front of the box, lift the playfield and start looking. Loose wires, stuff touching, already gave you the colours, you could also look these things up yourself, you know.

No worries - thought there’s something common you might know about. Thank you for your help.
