As some of you might have seen I am restoring a Nintendo Space Firebird. Jim (mypinballs) has thankfully redone the boards etc, but it looks like I might need to get the CRT and associated sound amp checked/refurbed.

I've done a bit of googling but not really landed on anything. Cany anyone give any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

M.

Where is he based? I'm sure you don't want Hermes lobbing it over his fence :excited

You’ll have to remove the chassis to sent it to Grant.

It’s not a big deal, you’ll just need to make sure you discharge the monitor properly before doing so.

AK Amusement Supplies are who we use at our arcade.

Top guys and been the industry for decades

+1 for Grant (Gunblade)

Last time I used him (07/2020) he was based in Kent.

Grant (Gunblade) is the man on ukvac, but he may not have a tube that fits that chassis! Nintendo use inverted video so if you used another monitor you would need a convertor.

As for the sound as far as I know the chassis mounted amp only controls the volume, the sound board has it's own amp, I know this because mine had another screen fitted with no amp on the monitor.

I'm sure Jim will keep you right

OK, thanks all for your help. Quick update - been in touch with Grant (gunblade) and he has been really helpful but at present can't take the monitor/chassis due to getting work done at his home.

So now been in touch with Cos at AK Amusements - he was very helpful on the phone so I have sent him pics to see if they are interested. If they are willing to have a look at it then I'm considering getting Martin to take either all the parts, or the whole machine down to AK in London. Will see what they say........fingers crossed.

Its frustrating to get it this far (its looking great physically) but the picture is not right and no sound. I have been watching videos of home made CRT discharger tools.........but I think I need a specialist

Discharging is very simple. Connect a wire to a screwdriver with croc clips, connect to the earth and stick the screwdriver under the anode. Lift the anode off and touch against the frame to be certain and you’re done.

If your monitor has been off for a week or two most of the voltage will have disapated anyway.

Maybe there is a member near you that can help you do this first one.

Transporting the whole cab brings further risks and might cause additional issues.
