both solenoids on ball count unit firing at same time during start up

as my palooka is going through its start up sequence both solenoids on the "ball count unit" fire at the same time. so therefore as its trying to "step up the ball count up to ball 5" which is what's its meant to do its also resetting the "ball count unit" back to game over at the same time. so after its done resetting its still in game over so I can't play a game.

does anyone have any idea what could be causing the "reset solenoid" to fire at the same time as the "step up solenoid" because I can't figure it out

Have a look at whatever switches or relays activate the ball count unit solenoids, sounds like something could be stuck

I did try didn't see anything wrong and also I may not have checked all of them as I'm not very good at reading the schematic yet so may have missed a switch or something. so I thought I try asking people that know this stuff better

The schematic is definitely your friend here  Has anything come loose on the ball count unit that might be shorting and making both fire? It sounds like a switch is either stuck or is activating when it shouldn't but without having the schematic it's difficult to give you anything more accurate to go on.

Ok, looking at that the first thing I'd be checking is the Game Relay Latch. Looks like it should switch between the Ball Count Reset and Ball Count Step Up coils in normal operation so I'm wondering whether the make/break switch isn't working correctly?

I had a similar problem on Cow Poke and it turned out to be related to the tilt mechs. Althought the plumb bob was hanging free (ie not tilting) there is a plug that you can put in one of two holes to choose if tilt loses one ball or all of them. For some reason even though the plug was in the "lose one ball" hole, the machine was trying to tilt the machine out and subtract all the balls to play until it got to game over. For some reason pulling the plug out and not inserting it in any hole fixed the issue, even when it was plugged back in.

Which is a long way of saying could your problem be related to the tilt circuitry?

I have the same plug/settings that I can change on mine so I will try that now

I've also looked at all the tilt circuitry that is linked to the "ball count reset solenoid" and all seems fine. I'm looking at the schematic and looking at everything that controls the "ball count reset solenoid" everything seems to be as it should but yet both solenoids are still firing when only one should and if I manually advance the "ball count unit" to put it in a game the "ball count reset solenoid" stay's stuck on unless I latch the "game over relay"

Have you checked the trough switch(es) aren't sticking in any way?
Yh and they are fine. Earlier I was checking almost everything couldn't find a dam thing wrong either I'm blind or just dumb lol

You'll still need to check out the coin switches even if the mechs aren't there. If there's an added switch check out if the hacked wiring is good. Could be causing a short.
