Blindingly obvious, but worth a mention. Flipper wear

I hadn't touched the flippers in my stern world poker tour since I bought the game. I did not know what to expect from stern flippers so was planning to investigate when doing a mini shop in the winter as the game basically worked fine

Flippers nice and strong, easily made the ramps, ripped the spinners etc etc. One flipper started sticking. Upon dismantling, it was apparent that there was wear to the two holes in the nylon link as well as to the hex bolt that runs through the bearing in the link. The thread on this bolt had been worn smooth by the metal bearing

Armed with some bits from Phil at pinball heaven, today I replaced the

• plunger and link
• sleeve
• return spring

Each flipper mech has two hex bolts, so I swapped these over as this wear does not matter when clamping the cam to the flipper shaft as this part of the thread is not used. A bit of a clean on the two main flippers. I did them one at a time to preserve the original angles. Used a Williams gap gauge to set the "play" between the top of the flipper bearing and the underside of the flipper.

The result was quite profound

By removing these 3 sources of wear you can catch the ball more readily and also hit backhand shots that were previously the preserve of the adjacent flipper

If you did not know the game, or play the before and after, you might never notice. But a great little improvement for modest cash and time outlay
