As above really, looking to take myself on a bit and have invested in books to do so, one of my good friends is also going to teach me in some spare time. Long shot, but anyone?
CPC often have power supplies on offer but as some have pointed out in the past you want to aim for the highest amp load you can justify.
I personally use an old pinball transformer as it can cope with more abuse, has the option of AC or DC with your own rectifier circuits. You can even use the old transformer with its matching rectifier board.
For board work I use an old pc power supply as it's regulated and has + and - regulated voltages.
Regarding the oscilloscope, I'm using a 20 year old 2 channel analogue job that my brother had at uni. Yes it helps a lot but it does not have any storage or recording function. To this end I'm tempted to go for a data logging oscilloscope box that you connect to a laptop as they offer a lot more insight and only a slight loss in accuracy.
