Bally Kiss - Duff Coil ?

Hi All,

I have a Bally Kiss I'm trying to revive, and it keeps blowing the under Playfield Fuse which protects the coils.

I've unplugged J5 on the Solenoid driver board (fuse doesn't blow with this disconnected) and then tested each pin on J5 to check which coil is blowing the fuse, and it looks like it is the drop target coil (NO-26-1900), or something related to it. Diode seems to test ok (cut one leg off to measure).

Resistance across the coil lugs measures 4.4 ohms. looking at the following chart:

It shows the resistance should be around 22 ohms. Is this a reliable source of info for this (seems quite comprehensive) ?
Would this conclusively point to a shorted coil, or could the issue still be elsewhere?

And finally, any idea where I could get a replacement if it is the coil (in the UK, preferably)?

Thanks!

- Wayne.

Thanks for the comments/help so far.

For the Drive transistor, the one for the drop target was replaced as it was measuring different to the others, and the 120ohm resistor had totally burn't out! So I suspect if that has burnt out it must have been in some state and caused damage to that coil. Ordered a new one of those from Best of Pinball - Thanks @AlanJ

I have tested all coils now and the right slingshot is also blowing the fuse. I'm sure the transistor for this was measuring Ok, but I'll replace it as a precaution (unless anyone has any other suggestion?).

The rest all trigger fine when doing the coil test.

If the fuse doesn‘t go right away but only when the coil is triggered the transistor is probably Ok and the coil is shorted out. Easy to test by unplugging the coils. What I am trying to say is keep soldering on these old boards to a minimum.

I repeat this advice so much.

If a coil has burnt out or caused a fuse to blow then do ALL OF THIS.

Replace coil
Use new diodes if not already on coil
Replace the driver transistor.
