Anyone tried a super capacitor instead of battery for nvram retention?

I’d love to get rid of all the batteries, not sure how a capacitor works in its place.
add a photo please.

wondered How long you can leave it. Just put one in one of my bally ss machines.

It depends on the demands made whilst the machine is switched off, I've had them last over a year on some games. It'll certainly last a few months. A WPC game drains them a lot quicker as more settings are retained.

Nope but how do they work do you have to load them up (recharge) every once in a while.

Yes, you just need to switch on the game then it holds it's charge when switched off.

Thanks @Moonraker very interesting. they charge up so fast and i’m going to now buy some more. got batts still in a few other games. incl taf and indy wpcs.

agree @Fubar about nvram but as you say a pain on unsocketed chips

@AlanJ I've got one in my Zacc Robot and it lasted quite a while, close on to a year I think. Game has been in storage for longer than that now so it's probably run out of juice but will check when I eventually get it back on its legs.
