Good evening,
I was planning to prepare a bulk order through PCBWay for my own usage of about 10 AGGI boards, and @stumblor mentioned that there might be a few interested.
I still need to submit the BOM to PCBWay to get a quote, so I will fill up the cost information when I receive it, however it is very likely price will be below 50 euros (excluding taxes and shipment) - since that's precisely what I paid for a fully assembled 128x32 PIN2DMD board through PCBWay, and AGGI is far simpler in design.
A few notes notes:
- I'm located in France, so shipping will vary depending on where I need to ship afterward
- No cable provided (this is a hell of work), no PCB standoffs/screws, just the board
- No Arduino either, you need to source it yourself.
- This will be a zero profit initiative, only manufacturing/material cost, import taxes (warning, they can be high, in France it's about 20% plus admin, and it's a lottery whether they can go through customs without tax duties), and shipping cost to you.
- I have yet to think about how how to test the boards as I don't have a test fixture, and how to account for defective boards
In the meantime, could anyone interested please PM me. I'll have a hard time tracking the main thread, so please private message only. I will publish on the main thread the names and number of units so you can check you are on the list
Cheers
[EDIT] Current quote for 20 units is at $63 per unit + shipping. I'm expecting the cost to drop by a few dollars as I identified an error in the BOM.
[EDIT2] I checked the BOM, and there is no room for improvement (aside from component negotiation which is probably overkill).
[EDIT3] Just realized I forgot the PCB cost in the cost breakdown, adding it below
Price breakdown (bulk order of 20):
$49 PCB cost, $233 assembly cost, $983 component cost, $58 Paypal fee, shipment to Europe is Free using Fedex-IP (seems there is a temporary promotion on shipping)
So per unit cost: $67 (US dollars, as PCBWay quotes in dollars)
NOTE (to ensure everyone is on the same page):
- This does not include potential tax. There are times where some of my shipments were taxed (add 20% + admin fee), others where it went through without taxes
- This does not include shipping from France to your final location. While it's expected that shipment to Europe will be sub $20, I have no clue about other destinations.
- as you can see I need to make an upfront payment of more than $1200 dollars, so before committing I really need to ensure that people will commit for their unit. I won't charge before shipment to you though.
- I will test a few units at arrival, but I have no way to test them all.
- I don't charge a cent for the work
Please confirm interest, as I have to perform an upfront payment for the whole lot.
Note: you will also need cable and connectors.
Note that some of the connector (the 34 pin pin female header that mounts on the ribbon) are rather expensive, and you need three of them (10 euros a piece), so total cabling will likely be around 40 euros (unless @stumblor can comment and point out if I'm making a mistake)
