Putting this out there as I don’t really want to sell but I am looking to fund a VW splitscteen purchase but they are silly funny now.

Anyway I would really like both of these pins to be sold together as they are the matching number Le’s both in mint out of the box condition. Both have Invis glass, afmr le I have the green protector plastics. Both had new balls.

Both are in as new condition except abit of the normal pimples on the playfield on afmr.

They are both very low play pins and are pristine.

If the splitty is an investment, then it is like buying anything you hope goes up.

But behind the romance is a really unreliable/ uncomfortable/ slow/ crude vehicle. Expecially if you try to use it as a campervan.

With an e type. Or air cooled 911. Or even an eighties or nineties modern classic you are actually getting a nice, usable vehicle.

With a splitty, the underlying vehicle will always be crude and troublesome no matter how much work you do on it. A splitty is better than a steam powered vehicle I suppose.
 
Had a few and the one I am looking at is not your normal camper van, more a 23 samba deluxe with a 911 lump, discs all round and a cog box gear box this isn’t your normal splitty or I wouldn’t be sell these pins to be fair.

Really refreshing to see this post from someone who sees the truth behind the romance.

I owned a 1960 dove blue panel van - all surfed up and actually featured in an edition of Volksworld Magazine. I actually jumped and punched the air when the new owner drove off in it. Awful things with standard running gear! Wheel mounted reduction gears so the original spec underpowered Beetle engine could actually get the increased bulk to fight inertia and actually move off from a standstill. The absolute work of the devil!

To the OP - yours sounds a lot different and less of a chore to drive - but for me here’s the key question..... Where did it spend its life? If it wasn’t a dry sunny place like South Africa or Cali then unless it’s been through the whole acid bath process, I’d say avoid it as your life will be a misery. Mine was from Finland. It looked good enough for a photo shoot, but the structural integrity was pretty much entirely provided by the lovely dove blue paint. Enough said.

I just got rid of my T2, I think the T2 is a better van than the T1. We hired a T1 when on holiday in Jersey for a week, it was a ****ing nightmare. The T2 we had for 2 years and it was nice, it was getting rustier everyday as it was only under a cover not in a garage, but 45mph was its best really, 50mph was quite an achievement. Any faster than 45mph it couldn't have stopped effectively and it would have crumpled like a tin can. Now if you were talking classic Aston Martin DB5 or 6.......
 
Poibug will be along any minute. I had a cal look beetle complete bottom 12" of it all replaced. Leather interior. Rad engine. Has it 10 years. It was the nuts. Daily driver too.
