Hi.

Switch 24 on TAF switch matrix says "Always Closed" and has a box around it on my machine which is currently under repair.

But what does it actually mean?

No idea if it’s any good but this popped up in my feed earlier. Might be of use…

I remember reading it's there in all the wpc games. It's not a physical switch but a fake switch so the code knows what a closed switch is... Something like that I think?

Star Trek Next Generation probably had the most poipulated playfield of the WPC89 CPU games and it still had a few switched not used.
It did, but it had an extra 9th column of switches so still had more than most! 😂

I didn’t notice that, I need to see in the schematics how they did that on the same board set as the earlier ones. I have STNG EPROMs set up on my test bench boards so will check what I am missing from the switch wiring.

Switch column 9 via the 8 driver board .

Hello,

To clarify re. switch 2,4, 'Always Closed', it's used to show the software that the '12v Digital' used for the switch matrix is okay; if it's absent, the program halts after booting up, showing a message about checking some fuses, the presumed cause.

As to the actual connection, it's made on the 'Coin Door Interface' pcb, in the cabinet. A diode is connected between Column 2 and Row 4, without any 'switch' as such. So booting up a Wpc game without the CDI board connected (to the machine, the door could be missing, it wouldn't matter) will see the warning message appear.

Calimori, the 8-driver board can be configured as split between 6 solenoid drives and 2 switch Columns - even Star Trek Next Gen didn't need both of them. Though I see now that it gave up the usual 'Ticket Opto' as 2,3. Which seems to have been the last of it, 2,3 then became the preferred location for Buy-In button.

Thanks Jay, a much better answer than I gave. I was going to go deeper into it but wanted to get the OP a quick answer as it was related to: https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/addams-family-test-errors-help.61979/#post-599936
I realise now, in my haste, my answer was rubbish as it could still be the cause of the short in some way.

Having seen the fuse error on my early attempt to get boards running on a test bench, when there was no switch matrix connected at all, I dug into it. It does make sense to tell the operator quickly that the switch wiring is not connected or the 12V digital is down. But why not tell us that rather than the fuse error??

Thank you,

I don't recall now how I first saw it, and worked out where 'switch' 2,4 really was. There weren't any specific de**ils about it in game manuals. It may have been when modifying something to use a u.k. C220 door. I managed this a bit better than some that were around, e.g. Ashbo's Getaway.
