I live in Derby and I don't know how I had failed to remember this since my time of joining this community. I am not sure of the time frame as it was a fleeting visit at a time when I was absolutely skint so maybe early to late 90's.
I was out just walking around the area and a shop had opened that was selling pinball machines. I popped in just for a look and I was greeted by a couple of nice guys who told me that they were for sale and that some machines fetched as much as a couple of thousand quid.
This was the first time that I knew that you could actually buy one for your home use but I was married with 3 children and had no funds to purchase even a cheap machine so I duly left and cursed my inability to possess one.

I have done a search and found a picture of where the shop was located and I was wondering if anybody knew the guys who ran it or how long it was there for?
Any information at all really would be great.

I think it was located on a corner of Nuns Street and Mill Street and is the building on the right of this image which is now a Sainsburys Local.

This has really got me racking my brains now as I am normally extremely good with timelines and what I was doing, where and when.
Maybe it was a dream I had as I just cannot pinpoint the correct years.

A bit of internet sleuthing and I can tell you that shop in your pic (a bike shop) was there from 1932 to 1984 (link). From old pics on Google maps, it turned into a Sainsbury's some time before 2008. And before Sainsbury's, it was a Jackson's Local store until at least 2006 when they submitted a planning application for a door. I've had no luck finding out who owned it before Jackson's Local, but assuming it is that location, your date range is narrowed down to between 1984 and 2006.

Thanks for researching that for me 👍 It has got me thinking now as that's a good sized frontage and I remember it being a smaller area and one chap came from out of the back through a curtained doorway maybe.
I had it in my mind that the room I was in had maybe 4 machines in it and knowing what I know now then maybe behind the "door" was possibly a storage/workshop area which doesn't account for the rest of the floor area.
I was feeling overwhelmed at the time as I wasn't going to buy one but I was very interested in the fact that you could actually own a machine.
