1990 DE Simpsons Kickout Hole Issue

Hello everyone...

I have owned a 1990 Data East Simpsons game for a number of years. I have never had to repair anything on it besides replacing the digital display, which I recently did. Now the kickout hole on the left side of the playfield (just above the left side target bank) is not working. The ball rolls in there and stays until the delay triggers all of the ejection mechanisms to fire...then the ball comes out. So the problem is not with the ejection mechanism. The machine just doesn't seem to know the ball is in there. I really don't know anything about the workings of the machines. I just like to play pinball, and I want to keep this thing in working order. What do I need to look at to get this fixed? Is this likely to be a simple fix that I can do myself, or do I need to pay a technician to look at it?

I appreciate any help. I'm obviously new to trying to fix these things.

Sounds like the switch for that scoop needs adjusting or isn't working. Put the game into switch test and put a ball in the scoop to see what happens. There should be a microswitch somewhere in the hole that lets the game know the ball is in there. Try pressing it with your finger while in switch test to see if its working. If it is then you just need to adjust it until it registers when the ball goes into the scoop. If it's not working then you'll need to replace the switch with a new one.

Where in the country are you as there may be someone local who could help out if your not confident in sorting it yourself?

Did what you said. Switch is dead. Found one online. I'll try replacing it myself. Hopefully, I don't really screw it up good. Thanks for the help.

Take a few photo's of how the current one is wired up (which coloured wires go on which lugs and which way round the diode is) and you'll have no worries soldering the new one on :thumb:
