I have just rebuilt two flippers using new parts. I did not touch the boards, dip switches etc. the flippers work fine !

Paragon has two dip switches that determine what sounds it produces, through a combination of tunes, chimes and noises. The dips generally allow you to set a specific sound trigger (power up, scoring 10k, tilt etc) with a choice of one or other of the above sounds

For some reason it sounds as though the game is playing more than one sound at once, so it is just producing a confusing mess of sounds.

So I then adjusted these 2 dip switches and they now seem to have no effect at all.

Might anyone know what has happened here please

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried reseating the pins on the sound board, but that has not sorted it.

The game plays, scores properly etc. the volume and reverb controls on the sound board both function ok.

Is it worth reheating all the other joints on the sound board, or is that inviting even more trouble ?

The old boards are so temperamental! Reseat everything. Then reflow all the header pins. You did power cycle (switch off, switch on) after changing the DIP switches? The settings are only read into memory at power up so changes to the switch settings whilst switched on have no effect. It is recommended to replace all the electrolytic capacitors on these boards too. Not sure that's going to fix your issues as it sounds to me (no pun intended!) like the triggering of the sounds from the MPU is at fault rather than a wonky sound module.
