This is what a top quality restored SS went for this weekend:

Once you add the buyers premium and VAT that comes to about £9700

There's a lot of people with a lot of dough who don't mind forking it out to relive their youth...

It was a NGS with a very nice paint job - gradation of the orange on the car rather than the original very crude gradation. And nice legs.

It was a snip at £5200 plus buyers premium and tax.

Jesus f*cking Christ!!!!!! I was think £10K to £15K maybe :tut: Some of the prices on that list are mental, especially for the 80's hot hatches. A series 1 Escort RS Turbo for £60K!!!1 I used to have one of them and they're not that good :)

Yeah, £62k for a Renault 5 Turbo. wtf

Wow, wish I still had my S1 RS Turbo at those prices!! The lag and torque steer was epic!
Still got my Fiesta RST though :)

that 3dr is an RS500 90k is what mint low mileage ones are going for.
i got offered a mint black RS500 10yrs ago for 15k and i thought that was mad money then.

So who did the restorations on these Evil Knieval's and Nitro Ground Shakers? Interested to see what the conditions were like.

It was Giacomo at Pinball Creative in London / Henrik at Pinball Dreams in Germany for the playfields (the EK may have been a NOS playfield actually.) Complete "as new" restorations though, with a few mods like the graded paintjob on NGS.

Who would have known 80's cars would now sell for so much:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

All these kind of purchases are relative.

Programme on mega yachts, the ultimate rich man's toy - it costs £10 million a year just to keep some of them running!

One of the guys selling them takes 5% commission and was trying to sell a 100 million pound yacht.......nice work if you can get it:D:D

All collectables, it's just supply, demand, rarity, condition and perceived value.

Hmm. Time to up my restoration game so I can attract these types of customers lol!

You've got to keep in mind that those pinball machines aren't being sold to experts, they're being sold to classic car enthusiasts (I'm one of those too) who have turned up for the auction/show (Silverstone normally do their's in conjunction with a car show) and fancy a pinball game that they see in passing. I suspect the buyers of both tables have no idea what the real value is.

I see the same thing happening every year at the Aston Martin auction run at Newport Pagnell by Bonhams - we all know the value of the cars, have no idea on the value of signed James Bond photos so they always go for a multiple of what they would sell for anywhere else. So if anyone has a decent Goldeneye pinball machine, that's the venue to sell it at.... :)

probably encouraged by the high price achieved by the Evel Knievel at the auction, this is currently (as at 23rd Dec) on the "For sale - coming soon" page on the Pinball Creative web site (the "creative" part of the company name possibly refers to their pricing policy!)

35. Evel Knievel 1977 EM version (yes EM version) Will have new playfield, original glass 10/10 and cabinet 8/10 all new chrome metal work everything will be cleaned, and we mean everything. The entire bottom board will be totally restored all old worn parts on playfield replaced, plus it will have a brand new playfield. Only 155 were build of this legendary machine. Will be ready Easter 2016. Price upon request, offers in excess of £20,000

Dig deep!!!!

down the line it will be the stronger tie in games that bring top money not the so called A list games. in 20 years a star wars will sell , a CV not . A mr and mrs pacman will out sell a fathom for same logic
