Just wanted to double check a couple of things - firstly that U22 and U6 have been installed the right way up and how to actually install the chips properly as the legs are slightly too far apart to slot in easily, so I assume there’s a trick to it?

Cheers!

They are correct and there's normally a notch (or indent circle in the corner) in the top to indicate the correct direction on both the chip and chip holder.

Check all the ic pins are lined up, and not out of line or bent left or right - then go slow. those round holed sockets are tricky to slot into. each pin needs to be spot on. rest the ic on top and adjust any wayward pins with a small pair of long nosed pliers (or tweezers etc) until they’re all perfectly lined up.

Thank you! Managed to get U22 in but struggling on U6 - any tips?
Thumb on one end, finger on other and gently bend one sides set of legs inwards, then repeat for other side. Repeat if necessary until the chip can be inserted in to the holder. If you over bend chip legs or they get bent out of shape for whatever reason use thin nose pliers to re-straighten.

Put the chip sideways onto a flat surface. Hold the chip body and bend body against the legs so that they become square to the chip. Repeat on the other side, and you should be somewhere close to fitting. The pins should all be aligned as you’ve used a flat surface. Offer up one line of pins to the socket and then gently move the chip to pick up the second line.

Thanks everyone for their help - managed to get them in. Just got slightly paranoid of bending the legs as it feels so wrong to do!
