In Progress Whitewater Full Refurb

Bank holiday weekend progress.
Added some of the powder coated bits to the cabinet, waiting on some double sided tape to arrive before putting the side rails on.
Nearly time for head to meet body again! :)

Playfield; good and bad.
Added all of the new plastics which look a lot better than the old ones!

The 'missing plastic' bought from a chap on pinside looks a lot better than the standard metal

Boulders added with cliffy protectors and blue flasher domes.

Then it was time to add some ramps. Old and new below

Unfortunately this is where I ran into a problem. The RH metal ramp protector was missing and is unfortunately unobtanium as far as I know (??) but luckily I had a spare spine chiller protector which I'm going to attempt to adapt.

I'm a bit stuck until this is sorted but I did test fit the disaster drop ramp along with the mini playfield to make sure everything was lining up.

It'll need a bit of gentle persuasion but will should be fine. Also test fitted the spine chiller ramp and that was the weekends progress.

Cheers all :)

Beautiful. Did you get a full ramp set perchance?? I'm still after a better ramp which sits over the top of the whirlpool

Thanks mate :)
I did but all of the existing ramps are fooked unfortunately. I'll take a picture tonight but I'd say there's almost no way it's in better condition than the one you have.

Ah that's a different ramp to the one I was thinking. Mine might be in better condition actually, I'll have a look tonight.

looking good.
Change out that red lens by the whirlpool tho!
Its impossible to get at without taking all the ramps out afair

I was thinking of leaving it red for danger. Seeing how much of a mission it is to get to you might be on to something though...
I'll have a look tonight.

Its the only one I want to change on mine,
got the cover and tried to change it but it was too much of an ordeal.
Its on the todo list.........

I know that it's not a competition but I'm pretty sure this is in a worse state than yours @Spandangler

Apologies for getting your hopes up :(
This is the one I thought you meant which is also completely destroyed.

On a plus note I had the grinder out and managed to cut the ramp protector down to the right size so the the rebuild can continue.

That's fine mate. Thanks for looking.
If you happen across one in the future, grab it and I'll take it off you.

Not too much progress recently on account of getting married last weekend :)
Realised that the boulder decals either side of the ramps weren't included with the new ramp set so had to order them from Ministry of Pinball which took 4 weeks!!
I couldn't fit the ramps until they arrived so the playfield has been pretty much parked.

Once they arrived everything went together pretty quick but what a mission fitting these ramps are! :cuckoo:

New Light Whirlpool plastic looks a lot better than the last one which wouldn't shine up no matter how much I tried.

Cheers

Just thinking the clearcoat bubbling - after sanding do you wipe over with some turps or similar to degrease ?

I always did just to make sure

Cheers Kev

Yeah I reckon that's probably what happened, missed a step out in the prep and it bit me!

First weekend I've had free in a while so wanted to get cracking and get this thing done.
Head finally meets body and it fits! Don't know what I was worrying about.

Next thing was to get the playfield in and hooked up and again amazingly everything fits!

Crossed everything, turned it on and this is where the smiles stop. :(
On the plus side nothing started smoking and no fuses popped but nothing. The led's on the boards light up, the speakers hum but no DMD or boot up.

Two inserts on the playfield are lit for some strange reason...

HELP PLEASE!!

The first thing I would check is that the ribbon cables are all sitting on the correct pins and the right way around. Convention states that the red banded side should be connected to pin 1, which should be labelled on the boards too. Its very easy to get things 1 pin out of line etc.

Thanks for that, one was the wrong way round but it hasn't made a difference unfortunately...

Great work man. What an adventure. Looks like a brilliant game, although I’m not sure there are enough ramps for my taste ;) really hope I get to play one soon.
