Been refurbing my Data East Star Wars for what seems like an age now - see shop log for details.

Had numerous issues.

Latest one is just plain ridiculous!

I somehow managed to lose the nuts and bolts for fastening the side rails on and can I for the life of me get replacements?

Bought some side rail carriage bolts from Pinball Mania - they didn’t come with the nuts (and the website didn’t appear to have the nuts (no jokes please)) and they were too small anyway.

Went to B&Q and bought their smallest diameter coach bolts - too large.

Went to a local specialist ironmongers - with the size of the PM bolts (9/32 diameter) and said “Do you have anything a “bit bigger” than that. Guy behind the counter almost laughed (you know one of those sharp, intake of breath “Ooh you’ll be lucky if you can find them in this day and age mate” moments) but referred me to an industrial fastening suppliers around the corner.

Went to the industrial suppliers - they only did metric. The guy, who was nice enough, then tried to convert my “bit bigger than 9/32” in to real money and came up with 6mm (even though a convertion website I went on said just over 7mm) and gave me four bolts and nuts for the princely sum of nowt since as he coudn’t be faffed breaking my £20 note.

No guessing what happened when I got home - too big.

Email to Pinball Center in Netherlands “You know those Data East side armor rails you sell, do they come with the nuts and bolts?” (I don’t really need new rails but am losing the will to live by now) - “No, sorry” came the reply “Just the rails”.

What makes it worse is it looks like the holes st the back of the rail are larger than ones at front.

So I’m fed up frustrated and fuming. Fuming at myself for being such an idiot and losing the originals. Fuming at the yanks for making stuff in non-metric sizes. Fuming at the UK for making getting hold of small quantities of non-metric hardware such a right royal pain in the rear.

Can you tell I’m annoyed?

To save me another day or more internet surfing, trying this that and the other and buying this that and the other does anyone have any Data East side rails, most importantly with fastenings they’re willing to sell please?

Cheers

Andy

Sorry to say the 9/32 bit was a typo on the website. Should be 8/32. There’s also a matching 8/32 nut. Look for keps. Realise this doesn’t help.

How does the one in the right look?

I’ve only got two sets available right now. I’ll send you them if you let me know they look right.

For reference order codes are HW132 and HW133 for the 10-24 size

And HW142 and HW143 for the 8-32 size

Away in London for the weekend mate

If I were you I would turn the house upside down to find them, unless you think you have thrown them out then they have to be in the house/garage somewhere.

Spent a few hours doing that mate. I have a nasty habit of clearing up and chucking stuff out but clearly not a good enough habit of keeping important stuff in a safe place!

8/32. The first number refers to the diameter the second number refers to the number of threads per inch.

2-56: 0.0860″ or 43/500″ in diameter; 56 threads per inch
4-40: 0.1120″ or 14/125″ in diameter; 40 threads per inch
5-40: 0.1250″ or 1/8″ in diameter; 40 threads per inch
6-32: 0.1380″ or 69/500″ in diameter; 32 threads per inch
8-32: 0.1640″ or 41/250″ in diameter; 32 threads per inch
10-32: 0.1900″ or 19/100″ in diameter; 32 threads per inch
10-24: 0.1900″ or 19/100″ in diameter; 24 threads per inch
12-24: 0.2160″ or 27/125″ in diameter; 24 threads per inch

This may also be of use. Not pinball specific but it's helped me with nut and bolt names when it comes to hunting for stuff on the internet.
