So about 2.5 yr ago I was chatting to @CHRIS B PINBALLS saying I was looking for a SM project and he told me to hang on and he would eventually find me a nice one.
After a few months I was put onto a real stinker at a knock down price that I couldn’t refuse so grabbed it.
This turned out to be a far bigger job than expected and it required a lot of TLC to bring it back to life. in fact it turned out to be a gruelling long 8mth project just to get it into a nice players condition one.
Whist on this restore Chris got in touch to say he finally found a few Spidermen! Three in fact and I was lucky enough to be in his long list of buyers.
However I couldn’t face starting another SM so ChrisBs has sat over 14mth and I have decided this week it needs to be started hence the post.

I have managed to buy quite a few NOS bits for this as the all the ramps were shot to bits which is usual. So over the past months have acquired the following and more.

2 decent 2nd hand ramps
1 NOS ramp
NOS SM vault plastic set
Full new decal set
Full set of comet and flasher LEDs
ColourDMD
Flipper rebuild kit
Shaker motor
and much more

1st Update shortly

Ok moved out ACDC as it’s distracting me too much so Martin collecting tomorrow so it’s off on loan till I can all least get SM finished.
Now I have space to work on it I’ve managed to get things organised and make a start so it’s had a good strip down, foam clean x 3 and a little spit, polish and wax to make it look quite presentable.
I did consider swapping the PF for the spare as its a beauty but they both have zero Doc Ock wear and the one I have cleaned up has came up far better than I first expected.
I’ve put the LEDs and flashers accessible from the top and started to replace the metals and posts fitting Red perfect play rubbers.
The pops have been rebuilt using Blue bodys and skirts which may change but look right at home so WIP.

Next Job fit cliffys, replace old flipper assembly’s with brand new ones and clean and install the mechs.

Unable to rebuild the Flipper assembly’s as I’m short the nylon bushes and open end coil stops! So for now I’ve
Fitted the Cliffy set.
Replaced 4 of the optos for brand new ones.
Refit the wiring harness into backbox.

Waiting on Rivet press and need to order aforementioned flipper bits before I can move on.

Starting to make protectors for as much of the Replacement NOS ones as I can. It’s a slow process but well worth the effort and TBH can’t help myself anyway.

Original / Vault. I love the art and TBH wasn’t a fan of the movie so it’s Vault all the way for me.

Beefed up the protection a little more on the intricate pieces.

Next my custom sandman protectors to replace the original.

OK back at it after a long layoff as I desperately need the room before FT lands. Spent most of today finishing the pops and VUKs With some soldering work I had put off.
I also fitted a lot of my custom plastics which needed a few alterations to accommodate the NOS Vault plastic set. This was well worth the time and effort as it transforms the pin with its abysmal photoshop movie ones into an absolute work of art IMO.

Next up get the last ramp in place and fit Doc then a few more custom webs and plastics before making a new custom Speaker Panel to accommodate the ColourDMD and speaker lights.
Hopefully all done for Xmas fingers crossed.

Bit of a delay as 1st power up and test game I discovered 2 faults due to a couple of board repairs needed doing.
Also had a string of lights giving an always on problem and eventually traced to a diode which I replaced.
All that’s left to do if fit speaker lights and inserts.
Then I’ll fit all the powder coated armour and mirrorblades.
In the meantime I started some work on designing a custom apron /lockbar set.

One thing I hate about stern lockbars is that horrible Tourney button they decided remove when they realised just how bad it is placed.
😬 🤮

After pondering a while I decided to take a leaf out of @Gonzo bling manual and went bat**** pow OTT and it’s starting to get the look I was after.

Hopefully I can get this out the workshop tomorrow and replace it with DrDude.

Great video Col. I just watched this and my wife was in the room and commented that it reminded her of The Joy Of Painting with Bob Ross as your presentation was really like his with his calm and softly spoken voice. 👍🏻

The Joy of Pinball has got a good ring to it.

I used to watch a series called 'a passion for angling' with a similar calm and soothing style.

The irony is that meeting Col in real life is like a hurricane 😂 . He is the most vibrant, excitable, charismatic and likable man you could ever wish to meet but I'm not sure 'calm' is part of it. 😂

On the videos he's a softly spoke gent who doesn't wish to get fingerprints on anything. In real life the fella is jumping around like a tap dancers fanny (as he would say) 😉
