Scrolling news updates/messages across top banner

I'm finding the new fast scrolling news updates that are showing across the top bar beneath the main menu, which is currently cycling between "the "Welcome back" message and the "Styles" message a bit head-ache inducing. Does anyone know of a way I can deactivate that or is it something only an admin can change for everyone?

they are distracting if im honest also.

they are a bit like those flash adverts you get on some sites....typically forums and daily newspaper online sites.

How about that - you should be able to dismiss the notices once read now (hopefully....)
