Pinball arcade - pc version friends list

Looks like Taxi for next week then. :) I played a game of it too last night, doubling my previous high score on the first attempt. Goes to show that playing so much Pinball Arcade since the competition started has greatly improved my digital game. Its just a shame it doesn't seem to carry over to real tables as I can't seem to get near the scores I set previously on my TZ after playing it less recently. The real game is a whole lot faster and less predictable than the simulation, which in turn makes it a lot more fun.

I think FarSight have definitely done a better job recreating some of the tables than others, both the way they look and play (on the whole the newer ones seem better.) To be honest the way the digital TZ plays is horrific, nothing like the real machine at all. I still really like the game though as it gives exposure to lots of tables you otherwise wouldn't get to play. Although TPA TZ feels lame after playing a real one, I never would of bought it had it not of been for the simulation. I haven't played a real Scared Stiff, but with this in mind I'm sure that Archytas is correct in saying that the real one is a lot of fun. Maybe that just means that fun tables on TPA are truly exceptional for real.

Yep agreed. I play the TZ in the pipeline quite a lot and probably average am measily 150 mil. It is so easy to drain it's unreal.

I've played SS at the south coast slam but the machine had all ceramic balls in it which was strange? It was very difficult. Probably the hardest machine I played all weekend.

I only got into pinball because of TPA and it is a really good showcase for all the great machines. You can also learn the general tricks of the trade on TPA as well like trapping the ball, roll passes, bounce passes etc.,and then apply the same techniques to the real games. The first machine I played I was just smacking it anywhere just trying to keep the ball going!

I played the same SS at the slam as well! I actually had a pretty good game but the real thing as always was a lot more difficult than the digital one.

I think TPA is great for learning the rules of games, not necessarily though learning much skill as it doesn't transfer to a real game. Games on TPA that play 100% perfect every single time you will never find on a real machine, no two are ever the same. I imagine a TPA game is like pulling a game fresh out the box and you play game 1 on it forever, it just doesn't happen that way. The physics are also not that brilliant sometimes. I'm not knocking the game, I love being able to play real games that I will never own and learning rules on them before I go play a real one elsewhere.

I'd actually like to see more recent Stern's on TPA, I do like that they are producing older games first (I am particularly looking forward to Diner) but the next one up is Stern High Roller Casino which to me is a total dud game, there is only 3 Stern's on the entire collection which includes Ripley's (alright but not stellar) and Harley Davidson (again, alright but not stellar). Still with a good amount of decent Williams/Bally/Gottlieb for them to pick through I don't think we will see many more Stern's for a while as I imagine they charge more to licence out their tables being currently active still.

Well said, I don't want to keep hating on it but it's so bad. People like it because they can play on the toilet & in the motor? fair enough.

Once you got hang of those tables it's on par with a game of pacman / donkey kong where you can learn the pattern of every single bounce & flow of table. There is no randomness/spin/air ball to it like a real game , VP or Unit3D. I've seen some really long vids of gameplay, just unreal scoring.

Flippers are an on/off switch yeah , but with this it's either full power or nothing. When I made Paragon the other week and was doing the 100 millisecond tap passes, you got no chance of anything like that.

It's a shame I wanted to play Lights Camera Action so bad but nothing's changed, it never will.

Annnnnnyway :) , you got Addams Family being kickstarted next....

I think we can give up and go home guys now that Noak has beat everybody in the entire world with 72 billion and is sitting at #1 on all lists, even the regular list! Seriously good show dude but how did you devote the hours needed to get that high a score? I got bored at 143 million!

Good news - the latest newsletter announced that they've finally sorted rights for The Addams Family and will be launching a Kickstarter later this summer.

Update: Oops, just saw Dave beat me to it. :) Still, great news!

Haha well I'm flattered that you may of thought I was capable of such a score and while I'd love to take credit for it I actually just took advantage of the game being broken.

I had about an hour before bed on Thursday evening so thought I'd try my patience out and see if I could move my high score on a bit from the 260 mil or whatever it was. I was in Monster Multiball when the glitch started and had a score of about 200 million with another couple of balls left to play. After I managed to quickly fire all of the balls in to the crate all but one of them appeared to get stuck in the dagger scoop. For about 5 minutes or so only 1 ball was free on the table at a time, so I just kept hitting the crate and scoring jackpots. Occassionally all the balls would get stuck, but quickly found that a hard forward nudge would free a ball and I could keep scoring. After repeating the process above a few times eventually it had got to the point where all of the balls were stuck but kind of vibrating on a switch that was scoring 1 million point jackpots. At this point it seemed pretty clear that it was going to keep doing it forever, so I left it running and went to bed returning to it the next morning. Heres a video of what it was doing:

When I woke up on Friday morning low and behold it was still scoring somewhere between 1 and 2 million points a second. I managed to quickly nudge 1 of the balls free but the others remained stuck. In the end I had to use a combination of nudging and the call attendant feature to free the balls, all of which I deliberately drained.

Although I've always believed many of the best scores of all time to be fake, this 100% confirms it. Glitches like this are totally game breaking and the worst thing is after that a google search reveals it has been known about since sometime in 2012. I took the view that rather than break out of the glitch earlier and end up with a plausible but cheated high score, I'd just completely take the **** out of it and get my name to the top of the list like others have done in the past. The new game now is to wait and see how long it takes FarSight to notice that the score is clearly not right and remove it(you basically have to keep scoring the highest jackpot possible on the table 1 to 2 times a second for 7 hours+ continuously!)

Sorry for the long post but I thought you'd be interested in what happened. My genuine best score still stands at 261,600,180 and to be fair whilst I'm almost certain I could better it, at this point I don't think I have either the patience or desire to do so. I'll leave it to you guys to decide what you want to do with the scoring this week. Not really a competition grade table when things like that can happen.

Just in case you are wondering, none of the other scores I have posted have taken advantage of anything like this and were earnt in genuine play. I don't see the point in cheating myself or anybody else in what is supposed to be a little bit of fun.

Classic! I would have done the same... I already thought that something like this would of happened to get a score like that. Thanks for the video.

Just put down the 261 million score for this week. I believe ya! :p

Taxi this week?

Great you shared it dude, I also agree with Chris. Would have done the same! I wasn't able to update the spreadsheet over the weekend as I was away so if people could add their scores that would be great (I've forgotten what mine was! Should be on the high score list though). Taxi should be good, I gave High Roller Casino a quick go last night, awful game awful theme in my opinion.

Taxi this week sounds good, I've updated the spreadsheet with last weeks scores etc. Good to know that you guys would of exploited the SS glitch like I did lol, I ended up with a score of 72,455,767.980 after the 7 hours of jackpots!

I gave the HRC a quick blast on Saturday and I don't think much of it either. I don't mind the theme but the sound and gameplay is a repetitive and annoying. Most of the time its easier to play TPA than a real table but sometimes it seems like they have deliberately made shots a lot harder to hit than they should be. The right hand loop on HRC is a good example, the window of opportunity you have to make the shot is skinnier than Kate Moss. You can trap a ball on the left flipper, shoot and hit the post, then trap again and shoot just a fraction of a second later and it bounces off the side. I haven't played a real one but I can't see you'd need to be anywhere near that precise in reality, its a pretty wide area to try and hit.

the window of opportunity you have to make the shot is skinnier than Kate Moss.

Have to remember that one!

I'm also yet to play a real one, it might be better than the TPA version as I have found with some games (SS and FT) but I would certainly give it a go if I saw one, not sure how long it would hold my attention.

Also you're a star for updating the spreadsheet, cheers!

Yep cheers for updating the scores Aaron.

On a separate note I'm gonna buy season three.the lure of HRC and LIghts camera action is too much! :p

Anyone up for a season 3 table next week?

Yea I'm happy to play whatever really. Theres some really good tables in season 3 but I'd say my favourites are probably Black Rose, Black Knight 2000 and WhoDunnit so far.

I see not much is happening on Taxi yet - my week has been very busy, starting with complete delete/reload of my netbook after a virus infection.

Gotta say I've found it hard to get started too, last week was a real bummer: it's one thing to keep coming last, it's another to struggle to get a decent score while everyone else is finding the game so easy that it's just toooo boring.

I'll get a score in for Taxi before Monday but I'm away most of this weekend. I'm still in the comp though, so long as anyone else is, and very happy to go with season three too.

Hi john. Yeah sorry I've been so busy with work, wedding planning etc that I haven't had much time

I managed to get 1 decent score in but haven't had time to check on the pc if anyone is beating it yet. I'm sure Sam and Aaron will do their usual of smashing our scores on their first go! :p

Hah, I wish! I have had a pretty busy week too so not much chance to play. Funnily enough Taxi is a game I never do hugely well on. Have to see how it goes!

Sorry guys been busy with work as per usual this week so looking to have a good stab at a high score over the next couple of days. Sam has already set the bar high with 27mil, an excellent score, looks like I have work to do!

My apologies Chris, I noticed it was in fact your 27 million when I went in for a game myself. I was hoping for about 30 mil at the beginning of the week so really chuffed with the 41.6 mil game I've just pulled off! :D I love Taxi, definitely a table I'd like in the collection at some point.

I updated the spreadsheet, Noak still well in the lead. I had a good game of 32 million which I am quite happy with. I made good progress on the wizard goals, I just can't seem to nail the 5x 100k spinout one which alludes me!

What do we recon for next week, maybe a season 3 game?

We must all be getting better, our scores are the top 3 on Taxi internationally this week!

Black Rose sounds good to me, a really good fun game :)

Been really busy this week so didn't get a chance to play until the last minute, sorry to snipe your score Archyta5! Congratulations to JWG9999 reaching 3rd place and claiming his first point. :) Whats up next week then?

Edit: I've added the scores in to the spreadsheet this week too.

Sorry I haven't played much guys but my wedding is in 3 weeks and all my time seems to go on planning that at the moment. I I'll also be away for 2 weeks in August so won't imagine I will get much pinball in.

Well done everyone on black rose. I really struggled with that table! And the canon especially

Maybe we're getting a bit overdosed on this competition.

How about making the next competition Class of 1812 starting Friday 1st August and for the whole month (since Pinball Arcade keeps a monthly high score table)?

After that we could continue on a monthly basis or go back to weekly or whatever.

Either way I'm enjoying playing the tables.
