Help with STTNG cannon

Good evening chaps,
The plunger on the left cannon fires out but does not retract. So on start up it wanders left and right over and over.
In play, when a ball is loaded into the cannon it pushes the plunger back in and all is normal
What would be preventing it from sticking ?
The coil is strong and fires well.

Have you changed the coil sleeve? Always the first thing I change when coils are playing up.

The ring of the plunger is binding where it impacts the mounting bracket. Remove the cover and you’ll see the ring in the metal that has been made by the plunger. Just use some emery paper on the bracket and the plunger rim to remove the excess metal and it should stop the binding. You can get a good result without taking it apart
