Help !!!!

If folk think I should junk these boards and buy a Pascal one, please say.

The seller of my dead Genie was not knowledgeable about pinball machines. He told me he had done this hack to the coin door board in the base of the cab to allow free play?

Is this hack kosher ?

The game does make noises on power up, but does not boot. Does anyone recognise this diode hack to the sound board, just inside the coin door ?

The mpu board has a few hacks, any ideas whether these are legit ?

This pic is clearer and shows the hack on the topside ...

The connector strips on the mpu look horrendous, and this shows the hack on the bottom side. It is to a1-j7, which is the most knackered connector ...

At least the driver board looks unhacked, if a little toasted under the big tranny ...

Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this mess

Yup jumper wire freeplay option, battery is just aftermarket.Burnt tranny board not uncommon. Cut resistor on mpg with link no idea.Think original mph cap, but dave d Pascal cpu.sound board needs drive lines activating so you need mpg and driver working

Are those connectors just large pads of solder - not sure but could be "reflowed" if that was the case, like WPC light boards when they get divots in them...

I'd continuity test them to the next solder point, might not look pretty but I imagine they are still getting solid connection through the boards...

Reflowing solder on old Gottlieb boards seems a standard fix. That solder is so thick in some areas that it has distorted the molex connectors !

Have you found the schematics for this yet?

The driver board looks like it may have have a few of the little blue capacitors off...

The top right of the MPU looks like some bad soldering or potentially in line with the second connector bank

Dave,
I have a PI-1 direct replacement for the CPU.

Thanks for that, I am trying to form a view on whether to:
  1. junk the lot, buy the Pascal 3 in 1,
  2. Buy a Pascal mpu only
  3. Dig in and try to get all the original boards going
I will start with 3 but don't want to spend too long effin about with it

@Sgt GrizZ

I hear ya. I very nearly bought a Pascal 3 in 1 yesterday when I ordered a raft of parts. The transformer board looks ok. The sound board makes noises. Pascal would complete the chain

Can I just point out, effin about IS what Gottliebs initially are about?

The funny thing with Gottliebs is that a lot of things that you initially think are hacks are actually how they rolled out of the factory in the first place. I agree with @Poibug though, trying to make the things work is half the fun, I'm sure you'll figure it out!
