Fore button using the membrane switch advice

ive just fitted a new membrane to the BR machine for the cannon fire button - i procured a membrane and square plunger switch from marco in the states as my lock down bar doesnt have the switch - now my question is , is there anything between the plunger of the switch and the mebrane ?

so the plastic button pushes stright on to the membrane switch then ! thank you for clarifiction
