Hi,

I've got a couple of mods on my TZ that I want to extend the wiring on, so I can eventually plug them into the Mod Power Expander board I've ordered from @myPinballs. Currently one of the mods is spliced in with another and connected to tha DC power board via a weird (and fragile) 3 pin IDC connector and Z-plug thing....

...and I'd like to separate them and extend the wiring so that they comfortably reach inside the backbox via the cable trunking.

I've got an idea of what I need, but would like some confirmation really.

Firstly, I need to know what type the following connector is:

What I want to do is have one end of the cable with the female version of this connector, and the other going into a 4 pin Williams style power connector. Since I don't need to daisy chain connectors it seems logical to have a Molex rather than an IDC connector.. right?

I have a very vague idea of what I need on the 4 pin side of things... a ratcheting crimp tool, 0.156" Trifurcon thingymajigs and err... a few 4 pin Molex connectors. What about wire gauge? The mods don't pull much power but thin network cable style wiring feels really fragile to me.

Also - does anyone have any idea of what I would need to create and wire one of those female connectors?

Sorry for the ultra noob questions :(

The Gumball light mod that is already installed terminates with a male version of that 2 pin red connector, into a female connector which then connects to that 3-pin connector via those thin green wires.

The Robby mod that I have got is spliced into the same connector (as pictured at the top).

Long story short - I want to create two long power cables, one end will be a Williams 4 pin with I guess a Molex crimp connector, and the other end will be the female end of the red 2 pin plug pictured.

Would I be right in thinking I would need this?...

Female connector - Crimp pins -

Ok gotcha.

If you're gearing up for Molex why not cut the red plugs off both sides and replace with nice 2-way wire-to-wire inline connectors (you need housing socket, housing plug, 2 female crimp sockets and 2 male crimp pins per connector), then at the other end of your extension lead connecting to the mod board a 4-way wire-to-board (circuit board) connector with crimp terminals (trifurcon thingymajigs ok if the 0.156" size).

The Legend has everything you need and the crimping tool - measure the pitch on the mod board connector to tell if it's large or small (3.96 or 2.54mm)

It's not hard, get a few extra crimps to practice and some decent wire strippers too. Alternatively send it all to me again for crimping service :D

Edit. Reversed the pitch sizes for clarity.

Thanks. I don't fully understand what you're saying but appreciate you taking the time :)

Mod Power Board uses the same pitch connectors as the WPC power driver board, which I believe is 0.156".

Not sure what you mean by "2-way wire-to-wire inline connectors" or the "4-way wire-to-board (circuit board) connector" :(

That's good.
0.156" = 3.96mm so that's the "large" circuit board connectors that pinparts has, 4-way is the number of circuits (holes!) the housing can support, you need a crimp for each wire you're inserting into the housing, so for the mod expander board connection end you need
4-way 0.156" crimp housing https://pinparts.co.uk/products/crimp-housing-0156-pitch-choose-size
+ add keying plug, as I think each header on the mod board is keyed (= pin missing)
0.156" crimp terminals https://pinparts.co.uk/products/crimp156tri 1 crimp needed per wire

The inline connector for the other end would be something like - 2-way for the 2 circuits (wires) to the mod.

That's one approach, perhaps somebody will recognise and advise on just replacing the red end as you initially requested.

I should get a looky at one of these mod boards on Friday at the Basingstoke pinball coffee morning, so can double check 👍

Thanks again. :) That's very comprehensive. Appreciate you taking the time to link the parts too. :)

I'll probably try and keep the red connectors as they are as it's less for me to mess up really. Don't fancy my chances trying to strip really thin cables like the green pair pictured.
