Discussion: Pinball Tools

Andy @pinballmania was nice enough to sort me out when I required a few rivets sorting very reasonable might be worth giving him a shout, as probably not worth buying one for a couple of uses?

All my rivets are badly corroded and many direct onto plastic so I’m thinking I’ll need to do 20 at least. Pinball tool hire anyone?? [emoji6]

This is what I’m dealing with... white vinegar is good but I think I’m gonna need to re-rivet quite a bit...

OK thought I should share this. I’ve been using this product and it’s amazing.

Spray a bit on any of your plastic or metal parts and they come up like new. Check out the ramp I just posted above before...

Spray and gently agitated with my finger rinse and repeated a couple of times. Also amazing for cleaning looms.

Just don’t breathe it in.

Not used any novus or flame polishing.

Those bits were black a few moments ago.

Any air-brush recommendations ?

Ideally im after the type where the paint does not go through the mech. Where the air blows over the paint jar and draws the paint up and out.

Had a few as a kid but I can't even find a picture to link now.

Issue I have with gravity or through mech systems is that I find the guns gunk up when using latex paints to do large areas, even when using ammonia.

Probably my ability but I would like to try the Syphon method as an adult.

Thanks for the name of the system I'll have a Google session tomorrow.

I too would be interested in this discussion - I’ve been looking having seen a few people touch up faded cabinets using an air brush to great effect. I think that’s a lot more sympathetic than sanding it all off and putting decals over the whole thing. Still on the fence as to whether I’ll do it or not though...

What are you painting with latex paints?

Then I'd recommend a gravity fed airbrush. I use an iwata hi line but that cost over £200. You can get cheap China copies that would be good enough for what you want it for

These + sharpie = confidence to snip lots of wires off the back of the playfield emoji.tapatalk_cdn.com_emoji33.png

Scrubbed in hot water just to be sure. Not done a dishwasher test but reckon they’d be fine

I use these, stay on better and can usually get them from work:thumbs:

Got one of these myself, thought it'd be a great idea - both working on pins and in the shed. Turns out it's not. Used it once.

AWESOME kit.In my old work about 90% ie a few dozen aircraft engineers had these.Great cos pins too are made with little access.Kit also has safety torx for the backboc lock bolts. Also it is worth every penny.Have two as one in work one at home for pins

Nice one Poi  Needed something like this for a while so ordered :)

Found a hand rivet tool set that’s under £5. Bought it. Seems to be the right size. I may file down one of the tips to take half a mm off it just so it’s an exact match for the old rivets but they look like they’ll do the job.

Apparently you need to be really careful not to crack the plastic when riveting so I may practice on an old slingshot plastic first. I’ll post up the results...
