Is there any reason why new machines are released on code versions less than 1.0?

Because writing code for pinball is not a simple task and takes alot of iteration to get it right

Without this method you’d end up with much simpler and poorer featured games as the time pressure to ship games outways anything else where a production line is involved

Yeah, I get that, but surely the first public release should be 1.0 regardless of missing features? Anything less than 1.0 is classified as beta software.

People confuse beta version with code not complete. And version numbers with what’s in their own head.

They are all releases and will have gone through and alpha/beta stage through the release engineering process.

Stern have adopted a much more standard software engineering numbering system in recent years. What v1.0 means is it is the first release that the lead coder is happy with in terms of what they imagined feature wise being in the game. All the versions up to this release are tested and solid version but are the road to this release. Usually also the point release system is split as X.Y.Z where X is major releases, Y is minor releases and Z is bug fixes or tweaks or patches. Also if you receive a game with 0.6.x etc like batman was, then you know there is a long road to v1.0 as minor point releases with this model are usually not skipped/rolled together, only Z ones sometimes.

Another good tool in the software engineering toolbox is this major release point, as before that any issues can be resolved within the terms of 'still in development/building features' but after a v1.0.0 you need to go to a more 'fixing issues/feature update' scenario. Its all just words, but psychologically is does make a difference to the end user and often 'management'

My 2p with a lifetime of this :) (for those interested my indy rewrite is at v0.8.1 and magicgirl was at v0.7.11 when i departed)

New code!

LE V1.01.0 - May 8, 2019
========================
- Updated LIL' DEADPOOL LOCK Device:
- Improved ball lock handling. If the drop targets do not stay up when
the devices attempts to catch the ball, retry the drop target reset
up to 3 times. If the ball is not successfully locked within 4 seconds
of hitting the Lil Deadpool target, start the next qualified
Lil Deadpool mode.
- Improved ball lock-out handling. In the lock-out state, the drop
targets are reset whenever they are hit. If the ball gets behind the
drop targets when the device is in this state, lower the drop targets
to release the ball.
- Adjustment: "DISABLE LIL DP TARGET BANK" - when this adjustment is set to YES,
the Lil Deadpool drop targets will never reset and the Lil Deadpool device
will not be unable to lock balls. Rules that rely on locking a ball in the
Lil Deadpool device will compensate; the following rules are effected:
- Lil Deadpool Multiball, Frenzy, and Bounce
- T-Rex Quest
- Mr. Sinister: Megakrakolodonus Rex
- Mr. Sinister: The Final Battle
- Adjustment removed: "LIL DEADPOOL LOCKS BALLS" (Lil' Deadpool device will
always attempt to lock balls unless "DISABLE LIL DP TARGET BANK" is set to YES.
- Adjustment added: "BALL SAVE TIMER: LDP RECENT LOCK" (Default 0 seconds). If this
is set to a value greater than 0 seconds, a ball saver will start as soon as the
Lil' Deadpool target is hit to initiate a ball lock attempt.
- Updated switch test: do not reset Lil Deadpool drop target bank when the
Lil Deadpool target is closed in switch test.
- Updated T-REX QUEST:
Updated rules:
- At mode start
- All arrow shots are lit.
- Lil Deadpool drop targets stay up when hit.
- When a lit arrow shot is made
- Shot is unlit.
- Lil Deadpool drop targets trip down.
- T-Rex hurry up starts on the Lil Deadpool stand up target (12 seconds).
- If another lit shot is made, the hurry-up value is boosted and time is added.
- If hurry-up times out, drop targets are reset. If no shots are lit when the
hurry-up times out, all shots are relit.
- When the lit Lil Deadpool stand up target is hit,
- Collect hurry-up award.
- All shots are relit.
- Collect the hurry-up 4 times to light the scoop to collect DNA.
- Shoot lit scoop to collect DNA sample and complete the mode.
- If ball is drained while scoop is lit, the mode is completed.
Updated display:
- Display T-Rex Hurry-Up value when it is available at the Lil Deadpool target
- Updated WEAPON JACKPOT award:
- 100, 200, 300 weapons ... bump playfield multiplier minimum for the rest of the game.
- Updated MYSTERY: If Extra Ball is Lit, do not award Light Extra Ball from MYSTERY.
- Updated LIL' DEADPOOL FRENZY: switch value increases by 100k each time the
mode is restarted. Max switch value is 400k.
- Fixed REGENERATE - during multiball, a ball going down the left outlane with
Regenerate lit would intermittently not award a ball save.
- Added formatted game pricing to attract mode screens.

- System V2.27:
- Updated to nodeboard firmware v0.40.0
- Updated instructions for RESTORE SETTINGS.
- Reordered items in UTIL->VOL, moved CABINET SPEAKER TYPE to be after
BACKBOX SPEAKER TYPE.
- Added UTIL->RESET->VOL which will reset all audio settings to their
default values.
- Append (MAX) to the credit message if the number of credits equals
the CREDIT LIMIT adjustment.

Bugger, don't want to reset high scores again so soon!

I thought the high scores stay now since 1.0?

confirmed the high score and settings are now retained on upgrade!

I think it got overshadowed by Iron Maiden and then the attention moved on to Munsters. But when the dust settles people will have a chance to revisit it and see how good it is.

I've been loving Deadpool when I get a chance to play it at Chief. It has so much going on.

Regarding Munsters, can anyone explain what the fascination with this game is aside from the theme? The code is extremely shallow (collect the family members, start Muster Madness, repeat). I guess this is another case of hoping Stern manages to finish it off?

All this deadpool talk is making me really want one now! Plus watching all the youtube videos! Looks awesome im loving GOTG and Munsters at the moment and Deadpool looks a good contrast to those

Absolutely loving Deadpool... we swapped ours out in January for The Beatles and we just took delivery of another one!

Had some games today and wow the code was really progressed since Jan. Always loved the layout and the lock is one of the most satisfying shots in pinball 😆

But now with the code, totally in love with it! Managed to get to Megakrakolodonus Rex which feels well earned after the 3 battles and 2 quests!

When you have a Deadpool and Munsters side by side you really do feel Stern dropped the ball with Munsters which is embarrassing after a decent run of games!
