Hi guys, I recently got my first pin a data eat hook. I have tidy her up a bit, put some new buttons and some LED’s to brighten it up a bit. Managed to adjust most things so seems to be running pretty well now. Just can’t get the left or right eye lamps in the skull working. Have tried a few different bulbs (LED, Flexi LED, incandescent) non of which work. I am thinking maybe the holders are at thought but strange they both are gone. And there much better condition than most underneath. Just wondered if there’s anything that I am not thinking of. I am new to it so don’t know much at all to be honest apart from the basics.
Thanks
Carl

@astyy might know, as he posted this on Pinside a while back

otherwise sounds like those particular holders are new, so maybe be installed wrong. You may need to get pics of inside the skull.

manual here: http://shedspace.net/TPP/TPP-1038-Manual.pdf

are you running the newer code update? More reading if not, but the pinball code link isn’t working right now for some reason...

Thanks mate, appreciate that. Will look at it. Will try and grab some photos of inside the skull. Had the whole playfield apart last night [emoji2357] to get all the LED’s in. was getting worried I would be able to get it all back [emoji23]. And I notice this morning I have bloody missed one [emoji2357]

Also no, running standard roms I believe. Not the newer ones that are available. Are they pretty easy to install? The roms are socketed aren’t they? I will grab a set of pretty straightforward

Got some photos of the lamp holder. Seems pretty old actually now I look at it. Also one lamp on the main shoot ramp is really dim. Only slightly lit

@Carl85 DEFO get the V5 "Chad" ROMs it's night and day, you'll know if you have them at startup per the screen below (there was a V5.0.0 too). The upgrade is a socketed CPU Rom and Display Rom on back of DMD.

Those bulb holders in the Skull are fidlly and they're CPU controlled, the common wire between them is Yellow/Green so get inside and check all is good.

Finally get in on the next Pin2DMD forum buy on here, Hook looks great with a colour DMD

Ok mate nice one thanks. I will check those now. Will definitely get the latest roms then, mine is on 4.1. Will have a look at those colour DMD’s. I do like the look of them.

Result, which diodes did you change as a matter of interest, I hope you buffed up those rusty holders a tad.

Here's the details of Chads Hook release, he writes that it's the biggest update he's worked on (it needed it!), @myPinballs on here (and others) can supply the ROMs. Imho it just makes the game feel more "finished"

Sorry mate, just see your reply. To be honest I just used the diodes off of spare lamp holders I had. They had the same value. But can’t remember now. Going to try and get them roms if chad. Looks much better. I have Scott’s tmnt now. Just starting to play about with that. That has a pin2dmd in it. Looks great. Just got to try and figure out how to change settings. The text sits a couple of rows too low. Not sure if I can adjust or simply have to raise the dmd brackets so the bottom of the text isn’t cut off by the back glass. Doesn’t seem the easiest thing to be honest.

Nice one, you likely know Scotty is local to me and I was going to help him with this.

To my knowledge the 128x16 DMD has no vertical adjustment, basically its a 128x32 DMD with the driver board on the back and the narrow x16 image sits centred on the display with 8 pixels top and bottom (it can drive x32 scenes in x16 games - more on that below). I have a dump from TMNT when the game starts the first screen should be as below demonstrating this alignment (or screen test in diagnostics)

Assuming that's aligned correctly TMNT mounts the DMD differently mid backglass so maybe it's a physical alignment matter. Tbh I've mainly read about pin2dmd in virtual TMNTs.

The other funny about TMNT is that it only uses a single brightness level, compared with your Hook that uses two, that's why Hooks graphics look better. You probably have currently selected a single colour from the default palettes (greens I guess) in the pin2dmd onscreen menu and perhaps this is too dark a shade from the position on the green range palette. You can set a better shade using the pin2dmd tool or editor (more complicated) or try increasing the display brightness using the pin2dmd onscreen menu - described here https://pin2dmd.com/

As mentioned above TMNT has been coloured to a high standard and some of the scenes replaced with 128x32 by Malenko, eventhough you won't see the whole image through the DMD letterbox in the backglass defo worth giving his colour files a try, details here http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/3616-tmnt/

Yeah Scott said about that, looks awesome, will try and re align the actual display then. Prob easier. I am only in Kent so this end of the country; how about if you wanted to colour change display too? Wanted to see what it would look like in original colour compare to the green. Shame there’s no easy way to toggle through them with changing software on sd

You can toggle through about 10 palettes using the onscreen menu (buttons on back of dmd per link above) one being a shade of orange. Without a colourisation mapping file, only one colour would be used at a time for TMNT.

Btw, do you have a pin2dmd in Hook too, there is a full colour in 128x16 available for that too - http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/3656-data-east-hook-colorization/

Great will try that. No not yet. Where’s best to get them? Be good to get one
